I'm uber-discouraged right now. Can somebody give me a reason not to quit playing poker?

I'm not running badly or anything like that; I'm just so emotionally drained by the bad beat that "my" country put on me (thank you, Mr. Frist!) that I'm just having a hard time deciding why I should bother playing.

- My only hobby was just declared illegal.
- The nearest legal NL table is 500 miles away.
- Live poker rake is huge, the closest thing to a good game is 5-150 spread limit with blinds of $1 and $5 (UGH), and you get 30 hands an hour.
- I can still play online, but cashing out will become extremely hard.
- I run the risk of up to 5 years in prison if I continue to play online (thank you, Mr. Frist!).
- Even if I DO manage to play online and even if I DO find a way to avoid getting thrown in Guantanamo Bay with the other terrorists when I cash out, all the other good and decent law abiding citizens of my country (a.k.a., "the fish") are not going to go to all that trouble just to continue paying me money.

Ugh.

Combine that with finding out that the girl I'm interested in looks like she's got a boyfriend and my life just got markedly crappier in the last 24 hours.

I cashed out 90% of my bankroll, and I'm not going to redeposit it until I figure out what the future will bring.

(Very, very, very, very, very depressed right now.)

I understand that the new laws suck, but aren't there a million other sites that are still accepting US players?

im doing fr because there are more idiots there. 6max u have to exhibit some good game selection that you wouldnt have had to worry abt otherwise on other sites. but thats good bc it preaches something u HAVE to do in higher limits.

im having trouble finding 6max tables that dont play like 600 did back when i played that. ie orange in seat 1, four2it in seat 2, some 40/30 in seat 3, me in seat 4, crackyoface in seat 5, and full_tilting in seat 6 :P

I'll be hitting up 200nl too, though probably not FR unless table selection really is that bad. Ehhh, just glancing at the tables the avgVPIP is usually like 25-30. Bah, I guess I miss Party already.

FTP livens up during primetime/weekend hours right?

I have no motivation to play tonight. I think I'm just going to donk money away in as many MTTs as I can play tonight instead.

My dad dragged me to a live-game casino that had "poker." Yeah, I put it in quotes, because a $5-$150 spread game with blinds of $3 and $5 and a max buy-in of $350 is not my idea of no-limit hold'em. Unfortunately, that's the law here.

That's right: limit hold'em builds character, spread-limit is acceptable, but we've got to protect our people from the morality-eroding terrorist-inspiring forces of a no-limit game. I'm hoping the people give our government a great big douche this November, because we need to wash the currently elected smegma away.

Anyhoo, I doomswitched some guy to win a nearly $700 pot.

Nimrod live-straddles, two callers. I look down at TT in the CO, and I smooth-call (no reason to raise -- I'm basically set-mining; nobody on this table knows how to fold, and I'm not going to showdown with overcards to my PP).

Four see a flop of 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], it's checked to me and I make it $40 to go. Straddler folds, UTG calls, UTG+1 raises $80 (2xBet raises were VERY common on this table, and basically meant nothing). I smooth call, UTG folds.

Turn card is a non-heart ten and I can hear the word "dooooom" echoing in my head. UTG+1 bets $100, I raise him all-in for his last $69, and he calls.

River is another 9.

I show TT for the nut boat and villain disgustedly flips over 22 for the flopped set and turned death. Ship that pot over this-a-way, biyoch.

At that point I started shaking uncontrollably as the adrenaline flushed out of my system. I'm not cut out for live play, I guess....

I quit shortly thereafter, up $232 for the day. Not bad for two hours, but not as much fun as playing online stack-a-donk in your underpants.
