US: Swap poker with chess / bridge / some other non-gambling form of strategy game. Strategy games are strategy games, and your learning process / lessons learned, etc will, for the most part, be applicable and easily expressed. You can discuss 'life lessons' gleaned from understanding the points of view of others, or how occasionally, you have to be disciplined enough to pass up on a small edge now to set up a better situation a few moves down the road, etc. Just make sure you don't get caught telling a grandmaster how much you've studied chess and then choke when he askes you if you favor the Sicilian Najdorf.
