call me a bit ignorant, but i'm a bit hazy on the whole bonds thing. was it actually 100% proven that he did roids? or is all the roids talk based on testimony? and how much does this new book prove his taking roids?
i guess what i'm asking is, what's known for sure in the whole case, and why does this new book carry so much authority when we've been saying all along anyway that he's been doing roids. |

The fact that so many people have chimed in with how they still love barry makes me hate him even more.
Did Tony Gwynn use steroids? NO! |

What I find most interesting is that according to the article Bonds started to juice it up hardcore because he realized that "chicks dig the long ball" and he's a racist.
What better reasons do you need to start roids, human growth hormone and who knows what else? Well, at least we know that baseball players can be as much attention whores as supermodels. |

[/ QUOTE ] According to the article he was trying to keep up with McGwire and Sosa. The handling of steroids and the Expos/Nats is a HUGE black mark on Bud Selig, regardless of how people feel about the All-Star Game and Wild Card stuff. |

According to the article he was trying to keep up with McGwire and Sosa. [/ QUOTE ] Nope. According to the article it was all about McGwire. [ QUOTE ] The authors describe how Bonds turned to steroids after the 1998 season because he was jealous of McGwire. Bonds hit 37 home runs in '98 -- a nice total and the fourth most of his career at that point -- but he was ignored by fans and the media who were captivated by McGwire's 70 home runs and his duel for the record with Sammy Sosa, who hit 66 that year. According to the book, Bonds, in comments to his mistress, Kimberly Bell, often dismissed McGwire with racially-charged remarks such as, "They're just letting him do it because he's a white boy."
