if you want the best for music creation, go with cubase 4. http://secure.keyfax.com/Merchant2/merch...mp;Store_Code=M [/ QUOTE ] I'm just looking for a simple program for a more recreational use than this. |

im guessing if your giving $100 away then your kinda rich so I'll tell you what you should do if your super rich
CD to Wav uncompressed: http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ Flac is a losless format, but iPods don't support them. My advice, go for 320kbps mp3s. I can hear the difference JUST between 256kbps mp3 and wav SOMETIMES but rarely. 320kbps is overkill. 320kbps to my ears through my system is as good as CD quality and no one I've met can tell the difference between the two. If money is no budget for headphones, and you want the BEST, go for UE11 pros. These are *THE* balla IEMs. You can also get custom art on them for $50. http://www.ultimateears.com/_ultimat...escription.php Each IEM is quad driver, but youll need to go to an ear specialist to get moulds of your ears. They will set you back ~$1.2k but IMO opinion its worth it. iPods drive these headphones perfectly. Don't listen to anyone saying that ipods are sucky quality, they are not, those are just goons who put 128kbps mp3s on it and hook it up to a semi decent hi fi and complain about it. ![]() For indoor headphones, go for Sennheisser HD650's. These will cost around $400 but are considered some of the best open headphones you can buy. My pair has lasted for years and is superb. If you want to hook it up to your ipod though, you will need a portable headphone amp as these headphones need some power to drive them. Also, IMO DONT buy pc speakers if you like good quality music. Buy a decent seperates sytem and hook it up. Also get a decent soundcard, it removes electrical interference from your computer and provides much better sound. The emu1820 soundcard is superb, and also has lots of plugs to plug in studio things if you get into that, as well as mic slots. http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?product=9871 If you want a soundcard for gaming though, the creative X-fi soundcard http://www.soundblaster.com/products/x-fi/ is meant to be one of the best, BUT for music playback I've heard getting a different one is a better option. Also it's marketting flat out lies "better than mp3 quality music playback" is just bs, data lost is data lost etc it just eq's it tis all. A decent seperates system costs anywhere from $1,000 to unlimited really, but that's a whole different ball park. For $1k you will get a good pair of real speakers and an integreated amp. If you want advice on a decent hi fi send me a pm or something, I've owned a few and have listened to many, my current setup cost me around £5k (~$10k) and is fantastic, best thing I ever owned. Also on the headphones side of things, I really would recommend HD650's over Bose QC's. But sound is very subjective, you really need to go to a store and try both for yourself. I've spent many an hour on http://www.head-fi.org/ which is a forum all for headphones, I recommend you go and read some reviews on any headphone you want to buy. Listing to music on your computer, Winamp with the MD3 skin is pretty easy to use. Software for playback isn't really important, it's all about which is easiest to you to use but just make sure it doesn't do anything crappy to the sound like EQ it weirdly as some super sound setting or something. |

Ok, I'm happy with what I have here so I am going to announce the winners. PM me your account name (I have very little on FTP, if you have UB please give me your screen name and first name on that account)
Trufeelings521- 50$ First post was lengthy and informative, with multiple replies about other suggestions. Gullanian- 25$ Definitely some informative stuff. As you said, I would like some advice on a hi-fi setup. I know of and have heard some sick setups, knew someone with a ~25k setup who told me it was "entry level". It sounded amazing but I doubt I was even in a position to really appreciate the difference. Arp220- 10$ A close third. Thanks for your advice on various high quality music options. poker????- 10$ Some good stuff, thank you for the clarification on the TV tuner, CD site recommendation, as well as mouse and speaker reccomendations. Ajahn- 10$ Thanks for the info. on high quality AMP and DAC's. GeraldGiraffe- 10$ Good stuff, I will be looking into getting a Valve Amplifier. Again, just PM me your UB account name and first name associated with that account. Thanks guys, appreciated the help. |

This thread got retarded the second someone wrote the word Bose.
Just go to Head-Fi and read around some, get an account, and search for good threads. Your questions are reasonably basic and have been asked hundreds of times. 2p2 is not the place to get this kind of advice. |
