Admit it guys. If you could do it, you would. What's the point of sitting in traffic when you know all you have to do is hit the lights and go. Maybe they do need to be somewhere but they do not need their lights and siren on all the time. You're not a cop, you don't know what's going on.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Miami, Go kill yourself. I'm pretty sure your life is worth less than the worst cop's. So, really, [censored] you. Have a nice day. [/ QUOTE ] srsly, I hope he gets car jacked and someone gives his head a new sunroof. PS, for you morons out there, it is not illegal for a cop to run a red light/stop sign if his sirens are on, so I dont know what the problem is, because they are doing nothing illegal. [/ QUOTE ] Us morons out there? Cops turn on their sirens to blow through lights/skip around traffic all the time. Of course it's not illegal - the law assumes when the lights are on, it's not because the cop is a useless [censored] with no respect for laws he pretends to uphold. [/ QUOTE ] yes. you morons out there. there are about 10 people in this thread bitching how they are doing something illegal. ITS NOT ILLEGAL!!! Its about as unethical as jaywalking imo, but because you piece of [censored] suburbanites have to hate something of authority you make it out like they are raping babies. grow up. [/ QUOTE ] Pretty sure that if it could be proven that they were doing it to escape traffic/whatever, it'd be illegal. You're basically saying it's legal because it can't be proven. |

Here is my problem with a cop running a red light: it erodes (even if its just a little bit) the already frayed trust people have that the "police are on our side". Every time you see the cops speed, run lights when they are clearly just trying to avoid sitting at a light, harrass people who are just trying to live their life, etc. it strains my belief that they are there to serve the community and instead strengthens my fear that they are out for themselves. Illegality aside, they are foolish for taking this short cut.

Yea, it's kinda dickish, but if they're on the clock (cops are salaried, no?), then it's probably better for them to do some work rather than sit in traffic for 45 minutes.
I'm talking about rush hour type traffic. Sitting in a parking lot on the beltway kind of traffic. By all means, run your lights, drive up the shoulder, get to where you need to go. I would do it myself if I were a cop. If it's a regular light and you can't wait 4 minutes for a light, then F you, copper. I really don't care though. I'm in traffic whether they do it or not. I'm pretty sure the number of accidents caused by police running through a light is negligible. Actually, I'm not sure at all. I have no clue. The length of this post is already way out of proportion to my interest in this subject. |

[/ QUOTE ] What does this have to do with ANYTHING, how do you know these cops ALSO run red lights, maybe THEY arent hypocrites, and you are just generalizing, your logic sucks ass. Basically you are saying you agree with me though. Unless you dont think it is ridiculous for cops to hand out jaywalking tickets. |

i just want to voice (or write rather) my support for anacardo, the op, and all the other posters who see cops misusing their power as wrong.
i am amazed at how people can justify bad behavior some of the time in exchange for good behavior some of the time from individuals whose primary duty is to make sure people are well behaved, law abiding citizens. the "thank your public servants" BS is such fallacy. they are compensated just like any other job in america, in fact they receive extra compensation they otherwise would not if their jobs were less risky. they aren't sacrificing themselves, they aren't doing anything altruistic. if you appreciate their good work, then obviously you should thank them of course. its certainly not they case that these individuals should be admired strictly because of the occupation they hold regardless of the quality of their work. |
