For a long time, I mostly ordered either beer, gin & tonics, or vodka tonics at the bar.

Jack & coke, etc always tasted too sweet to me.

However, I was recently introduced to a much better mixer - Ginger Ale.

Try a Jack & Ginger Ale or even Gin & ginger ale.... it's really good and not -too- sweet.

Unfortunately, it does sound pretty gay to order.

If you want to stay with masculine-sounding, stick with a gin martini, gin & tonic, vodka & tonic, vodka martini, or a straight liquor like whiskey/bourbon (swede's recommendations of maker's and knob creek are both good)

SonOfStalin is spot on when he says no straws.

Ill happilly drink any 'girlie' drink, but first think i do is remove the straw and if it came with an umbrella id do the same and leave it at the bar (so far, never had an umbrella drink).

Also, pieces of fruit around the rim should be imediately eaten/removed/dropped into the drink.

Other than that, its all good.

The whole Beam/JD/Rum & coke thing is kind of old school, actually. See, older alkies get to the bar before noon and just start out drinking straight coca-cola. Sometime after lunch they would start mixing in the booze. As the day wears on, the drinks get stronger and stronger until, around dinnertime, they're drinking straight booze. I have seen people drink their entire weekends away like this, every weekend.

That's right - thanks - forgot to add that the lime goes into the glass. You project a great image, assuming you are well dressed - classy, sophisticated, tough all at the same time. Try it boys if you haven't already.
