[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I think what gets her pissed off is that I play poker in the living room so when I am playing, she can attempt to talk to me and whatever, but I really can't reciprocate b/c I have to concentrate and play. So I guess she feels like I should be available while I am playing to fully communicate, but I feel like I am treating it like I am at work and can't really talk. [/ QUOTE ] I used to have an office in the home and when I was trying to work my wife would come in and start talking to me about the her day and go on and on not the 5 minute version the 45 minute blow by blow. I tried many times to address this issue of her interuptions hurting my getting my work for appointments done. She was so self centered she had no idea how much she did it and could not see it even when brought to her attention. I spent the money to set up a small office in a business building and problem solved. You may have to find another location to "work". [/ QUOTE ] Haha. I tried the office thing for poker, but it was at my dad's office building like 30 minutes away and I hated the commute. Then I decided to upgrade my 1 bed. condo to a 2 bed. so I can use one room as my office. I think a better solution would be a small office not in my condo but nearby. |

I think this is a common problem. If you want your gf to 'understand' then that's never going to happen because girls (like many parents) just don't understand long-term positive expectation with this kind of gambling.
I suggest you don't play in the same room with her in and just ask her to accept your Poker whilst not interfering directly and in return you'll do the same for things in her life which you don't fully understand but do know are important to her. gl |

Duck,
Most of the people responding in this thread are retarded and have never had or will never have a meaningful relationship. [ QUOTE ] maybe she just thinks I'm playing to avoid her or something. [/ QUOTE ] All women are insecure, that's just their nature. She just wants to be reassured that she is your number #1 priority and poker takes a backseat. That's all she wants. If poker is your #1 priority, then yeah, get a new girlfriend. [ QUOTE ] If this was a regular/traditional job that paid over $100/hr, she would have no problem with me working tons of hours. [/ QUOTE ] This is just simply not true. Women value emotional security over financial security and the ones that don't aren't worth it. I'm assuming she's in the former category and would feel the same way if you had a more traditional job but still had no time for her. [ QUOTE ] I think what gets her pissed off is that I play poker in the living room so when I am playing, she can attempt to talk to me and whatever, but I really can't reciprocate b/c I have to concentrate and play. [/ QUOTE ] Is the $50 in EV you lose by spending a half hour to listen to her talk about her day worth it in the long run? Doubtful. It'll go a long way to her accepting the times that you do want to play when she's there if she knows that you are willing to step away from the tables when she needs you. It'll also improve your mindset when you are playing, knowing that she's not ten feet away pissed off at you because some stupid game is more important to you than her. |
