I would be interested in a keeper and/or non keeper league. Bugstud - are you also planning a non keeper league like last year? If not, how much work was involved in running the league?

Thank you,

Jim Kuhn

it didn't take too much effort for non keeper. as you can see, keeper is a pain in the ass

I might run a set of non keepers, I really dunno right now.

also, the way to lower dormancy is probably to increse the cost of entrance fee/prize pool....no?

I thought the $50 entry fee was a good size last year

If there are new leagues (or dead teams), I'll be interested but to a certain about of buy-in. $50 or so is max for me, and ideally I prefer a fresh start.

Every single 2+2 league that I've been involved in has always been full of false promises by owners. There has always been a number of dead teams at the $30-$50 levels. I, for one, lose interest instantly there is some clown with three IR/DL players in their active lineup. Such owners make a mockery of the league for the begining.

I feel upwards of a $150+ fee and move the league to CBS.sportsline where we can custom build the rules would be the best answer for this.

Default A league structure a friend and I built

Scoring:
Will be conducted on a traditional 5x5 format
The 5 offensive categories are: HR, RBI, Runs, AVG, SB
The 5 Pitching categories are: ERA, WHIP, K, Wins, Saves

Lineups:
Line-ups will be changed on a weekly basis only; and the week begins with Monday games and ends with Sunday games..
Starting line-ups will be configured as follows:
C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF, OF, OF, UTIL, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP, RP

Draft:
Draft will be conducted live online on Tuesday March 30th at 9:00pm Et on the league home page.
Draft will be 21 rounds with a maximum of 90 seconds between picks.
Draft Order is determined by last year’s standings, and is available on the league homepage.

Finances:
Cost of each team is $150, and the prize breakdown is as follows:
$150 for each of the two division winners
$100 for each of the four teams that earns a wildcard birth
$200 for each of the two teams that wins the pennant
$400 for the team that wins the World Series
$50 for each division leader at the All Star break.
$20 weekly (weeks 1-20) for the team that with the highest score. If tied, it carries over to the next week until there is a winner. If tied the last week, those teams tied will split the pot.
Note that all money will go back into league prizes with the exception of the $120 sportsline fee. Also, there are no transaction fees. One payment of $150 for the season.

Format:
League will be head-to-head meaning you will go up against 1 team each week. You will get a win or loss in each of the 10 categories depending on how you faired against your opponent in each category. The best possible score you can earn in a week is 10-0 if you win every category, and 0-10 if you lose every category. It is possible and likely to tie in certain categories each week, so a score such as 5-3-2 is not uncommon for a weekly matchup. Note that for the weekly high scorer however, you will be going up against all 14 teams.

Playoffs:
Each of the 2 division winners will receive playoff spots
Additionally, 2 wildcard teams from each division will receive playoff spots as well.
In the event two teams are tied and vying for a playoff spot, the tiebreaker will be cumulative head-to-head record. If still tied, it moves to division record).
Playoffs will be conducted as follows:
In week 24, the two wildcard teams from each division will play a one week matchup to determine who will play the division winner in the LCS
In week 25, the ALCS and NLCS will be played, with the winner of each advancing to the World Series
In week 26 the World Series will be played, with the winner being crowned Old Bastard Baseball World Champion.
In the event a playoff match-up ends in a tie, the team with the lowest ERA gets the win. If still tied, it moves to AVG, then Wins, Then RBI, Then K’s, then HR, then WHIP, then Runs, Then Saves, then SB.

Transactions:
Trades can be completed between 2 teams at any time up until the August 31st.
Trades are open to a league approval process. 4 of 14 teams voting against a trade will cancel the trade.
Waivers will be handled automatically thru the web site based on record.

Keeper League Rules
This league will allow a maximum four-players to sign to new contracts after each season.
You may keep a maximum of two hitters and two pitchers each season.
You must declare your keeper players within one week of the end of the (MLB) World Series, or forfeit the rights to all players on your roster not already under contract.
You may carry over a maximum one player drafted in rounds 1-5, two players drafted in rounds 1-10 (adhering to one player in round 1-5 rule), and a maximum of four players total.
Once you have kept a player, you own his contract until it expires. You will not need to use one of your keeper spots on him again the following year. Contract lengths will run as follows:
1st round pick = 1 year contract
2nd round pick = 1 year contract
3rd round pick = 1 year contract
4th round pick = 1 year contract
5th round pick = 1 year contract
6th round pick = 2 year contract
7th round pick = 2 year contract
8th round pick = 2 year contract
9th round pick = 2 year contract
10th round pick= 2 year contract
11th round pick= 3 year contract
12th round pick= 3 year contract
13th round pick= 3 year contract
14th round pick= 3 year contract
15th round pick= 3 year contract
16th round pick= 4 year contract
17th round pick= 4 year contract
18th round pick= 4 year contract
19th round pick= 4 year contract
20th round pick= 4 year contract
21st round pick= 5 year contract
22nd round pick= 5 year contract
23rd round pick= 5 year contract
24th round pick= 5 year contract
25th round pick= 5 year contract
An undrafted player claimed off waivers will have the same value as a last round pick.

If you trade a player, his contract goes with him. If you release a player under contract, his contract is voided and he is a free agent. However, if you release a player you drafted, who is not under contract, if another owner claims him that season he retains his original drafted value. If unclaimed for the remainder of season, he goes back into the free agent pool for the next season’s draft.
Add/drop is frozen once the playoffs begin. It does not re-open until after the draft the following season.
Trades are frozen after the August 31st deadline, and do not re-open until after the World Series when the keeper rosters have been made public. Trades made during the off-season to be conducted via email, and not thru the sportsline web site.

Joe,

I'm unclear whether this is a copy/paste from cbssportsline or if this is all you.

And if it is, you rock for taking the time.

It's a cut/paste from a word document of the league I designed with a friend. We are in our 5th year now and it really is an amazing league. We have a similar system set up for Football too. The trading of contracts and draft picks is the greatest for teams that are out of it and teams that are gearing up to go for it.

Good stuff.
