So, what is the format of the Mixed Holdem events? One orbit of Limit, followed by an orbit on NL, or what? Thanks... [/ QUOTE ] I don't know...but I was just thinking about mixed NL and limit. How would they overcome the huge swings a NL stack can take? So at the final table when the average stack has 30x BB it's gonna have 15 big bets? It seems like the stacks at limit hold'em final tables are usually a lot shallower than that...so everyone will just be waiting out the limit hold'em phase to get to NL so they can accumulate chips quickly. |

[/ QUOTE ] My guess is that it starts out as limit then switches over to no limit at some point. There is precedent for a format like that. The old Tournament of Champions was a mixed rotation of limit games before switching over to NLHE, as did the 50K HORSE last year. The first live tournament I ever played in was limit hold em for the first several levels, then switches to no limit. |

So here's my question and forgive me if this is a stupid one.
Some events are listed as world championship events while others are not. Does this mean that these events are not bracelet events? What's the skinny? Straight Flushes, SAM |

But only one in each discipline is the "World Championship Event". For NL Hold'em this is of course the main-event. For HORSE it's the $50,000 event and in most other cases it is the $5,000 buy-in event (it's always the one with the highest buy-in). So there are 55 bracelets and 12+1 World Champions after the WSOP is over. I think this is a great idea! Now we get a true World Champion in each important discipline of poker Shadow |

Yeah...I wouldn't say Harrah's say-so makes a tournament a world championship...certainly not a "true World Champion"ship.
I suspect they looked at complaints that the Main Event isn't necessarily representative of poker skill and thus not appropriate for crowning the One True World Champion Of Poker, and combined them with complaints that with so many bracelets for Hold'em there was no way to claim greater importance for one over another, and came up with the biggest buy-in=world champion idea. |

Yeah...I wouldn't say Harrah's say-so makes a tournament a world championship...certainly not a "true World Champion"ship. [/ QUOTE ] Well as long as there isn't an organization (that is accepted by the majority of players) to make the rules for a setup for a "World Championship" we have to live with the fact that the WSOP claims to be the "World Championship". So having only one WC per discipline is better than having several so called WC's just because they won a bracelet. Maybe the WPA can step in and be the organization to make sure a World Champion is really a World Champion? Shadow |

I have to say, this year's schedule is downright superb. I wish they'd gone a little easier with the low-buyin events, but I think that's a small price to pay for a well-varied event. It's hard to believe that this comes from Harrah's even with the advisory board. I'll give an A++ all around.
