[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] this kid who i was friends with (despite him being a total low life) stole ~800-900$ from me. Which at the time(this was 9th grade, so i was 15 i suppose) was an insane amount of money for me. It was basically the sum of all the 20$ bills that I got from every birthday card/Christmas/etc over my entire life up to that point. plus a few odd dollars from when i took over some kid's paper route for a week while he was on vacation. Anyway, one day the kid breaks into my house and goes to my room and takes all the money. I was so embarrassed by it, i didn't tell my family about it. in fact, for many years only one or two friends knew about it. i am sure my parents don't know to this day. [/ QUOTE ] um you should have told your parents [/ QUOTE ] ????????? thanks for the life lesson buddy, came about 10 years too late though seriously though, parents wouldn't have done anything. other than suggest he not come over anymore. which obviously happened anyway. interesting second story: My father had his car hit while it was parked outside our house, he saw the act take place actually(or figured out who did it by some other means, i really can't remember) and knew the person from the neighborhood. The guy who hit his car thought nobody saw and sped off. My dad never did anything about it, in fact he refused to tell anyone in the family who hit his car. i am still curious to this day. I should add that the crash messed up more than just the paint job. i would guess it did $1000-$2500 in damage, but i know nothing about cars. |

T-god, i know you said you weren't bothered by it but in all the gambling circles i run around in "staking" means you don't have to pay the person back. you can stake with some kind of a make-up clause or something but it certainly not the default. if you want to give a fellow gambler money that you want paid back the word for it is loan. at least thats how it is with everyone i know. loan, they pay back the loan plus a little extra. stake, if they show a profit, or the staking period is over, they return the stake (or all the money remaining if it is less than the initial stake) plus a percentage of the profits. [/ QUOTE ] Er, ya, it was a loan then. |

I was about to write that I'd never been burned but I forgot a pivotal moment in my earlier years.
I got the grand total of £75 in cash for christmas of I believe 1998. I was 14 then, and thought that it would be a hella good idea to spend it all on dope, so I called up my dealer who happened to be the son of some of my parents' friends. I met up with him, and being the naive little d*ck that I was, trusted him when he said 'give me the money, I've gotta meet the guy, he doesn't like meeting the punters face-to-face'. ok. ten minutes later, he called me from a payphone to say 'some [censored] just robbed me, he knicked my phone, your cash and my keys, i'm screwed, do you wanna come with me to find the guy' and i'm all like 'f*ck that, i'm a pussy'. While walking home I'm trying to figure out the best course of action. I went to a payphone and dialed his number, he answered, i said 'I thought your phone got nicked' and he said 'er, yeah it did, i got it back' and then hung up. Options: 1) tell my parents what happened, try to get the money back off him through the parents assuming he's lying (my read is that he's lying > 98%). 2) get my crew together, bounce down his yard, and administer some beatings. at the time, my crew consisted of me and most of the maths class, so this didn't seem too viable. 3) the masterplan. the next day i told my parents that i got mugged at knifepoint for that £75, and we went to the police station, I looked at some mug shots but couldn't find him, and span a nice little yarn about the guy putting a knife to my neck and having a look in his eyes that suggested he was high on crack. Obv while putting on my poshest public-school innocent young kid voice. A few days later while discussing the event with my parents I admitted to them that I did in fact know who it was. Now this kid had a serious rep, expelled from 3 or 4 schools (one of them for burning it down), but apparently his parents didn't really give a f*ck and le ft him a long leash. So my parents contacted the police and told them, then contacted his parents and told them, then his parents asked him, and apparently the bastard only went and told them exactly what happened i.e. he admitted to scamming me for £75. The plan would have worked perfectly, I would have got my money back and he would have been in deep sh*t with the police, except his parents were such idiots that they decided to protect him and basically told my parents to gftm. End result, I'm out £75 and grounded for 4 months, he gets absolutely no repercussions at all. BEAT. |
