[ QUOTE ]
So it's just a coincidence that attendance dropped after 1994, rose for 1997, dropped again in 1998? Then rose again in 2003 and 2004? I'm not saying they're good fans, but I think it's pretty clear that they're willing to come out and see games even despite baseball's problems in Florida if there's a decent team on the field. [/ QUOTE ] what are you talking about? In 2003 (THEY WON THE WS) and were 28th in attendance with 16,300 per game. They also DID NOT SELLOUT PLAYOFF GAMES in 2003 until the World Series. This year they were only 6 games under .500, and were in the playoff chase till the last 2-3 weeks of the season, their attendance was LAST in the MLB at 14,300. Finally, in 2002 their attendance was BARELY into 5 digits (10,038). Holy crap what a joke. |

Attendance per game more than doubled between 2002 and 2004. I'd say that's a fairly significant increase. Their attendance was likely bad (comparatively) this year because most baseball fans, especially casual fans, saw their trades as another firesale.
Edit: Again, I'm not saying they're good fans, but to try to attribute most or all of the blame on the fans just seems faulty to me. |

[/ QUOTE ] yeah it doubled because it was a completely pathetic 10,000 per game in 2002. i already said that. you are silly for arguing with me about this. miami sports fans are trash. |

[/ QUOTE ] Seriously, in 2003 the team sucked hard, and then they played insanely hot to sneak into the wild card. Championships spike attendance in the *next* year. 2002 Angels Att: 2.3mil; 2003: 3mil. Of course that'll never help in Florida because the front office keeps dismantling the team after they have success. If Florida had a good stadium their attendance would be higher. Not much higher, but they'd be respectable (25 k/game). |

As Jack said, championships sell tickets for the next season, unless you've already sold off key parts (Pudge, Derrek Lee, etc.) and again aren't expected to do well.

[ QUOTE ] Marlins attendance from 1993-1997 was just shy of 30,000/game. That includes the hit they took after the strike. 30,000/game isn't great but it's far from terrible. [/ QUOTE ] Thats because it was new and cool to be a marlins "fan" back then. Plz move to S. Florida and you will understand. [/ QUOTE ] Amen, this is not a very good sports town. |
