Default Re: Party Lobby is CPU hogging beyond control - help plz

E-mailing and notifying them of the magnitude of the problem is our only hope (I hope I am wrong though), but things may go faster in the right direction if we ALL send complaints. Mine is already sent!

Anyone here has a computer with dual-core processor? I am very curious about whether you also have 80-95% CPU usage while playing and mining, or if it is significantly lower??

I wonder if this has something to do with the problem. Party continually and repeatedly does disk accesses of the files containing the scrolling ads in the lobby – like a few hundred times per second.

Since the file is static and its being accessed that frequently your computer will cache the file so that it isnt doing a disk read everytime its accessed. In fact the read should take nanoseconds and use no cpu; therefore this shouldnt be the problem. Even if the file wasnt cached, the system would be hung up on the disk I/O which is not CPU intensive...

Does anyone having this problem not have a dual-core CPU? If so, what have you got?

I'm thinking this maybe has to do with the timer-ticks / processor-affinity bug I seem to remember people talking about some time ago...

Personally I never see this, but I only run a single core right now. FWIW usually have 6 XP accounts observing 4 tables each, and play 8-12 on my XP main account.

Also I use Empire - but I would assume the software is just as bugged as the Party client.

Hey . It's quite easy to get things wrong, and live a whole life thinking that likes bananas and likes apples, when in fact hates those yellow bastards, and you, , are the one with banana fever. prefer plums.

Perhaps you should go solo with a DeMonster logo?

Interesting...I have dual core and do have the problem.

Anymore info on that bug? A quick google turned up nothing. ..I wonder if setting the affinity to only one processor would help?

It was on these forums somewhere, maybe C/T Help, Internet Gambling or here... although I can't find it now that I try with the search function.

From what I can (barely) remember, Party Client uses some timer information from the CPU core for some reason (feeding their RNG?, encryption?), and this timer is not synced between the different cores in a multicore system. When the PartyGaming.exe is moved from one core to another, it finds different values than it is expecting, and freaks, consuming much CPU trying to figure out "what happen?", I think.

The cure is to set "Processor Affinity" to a certain CPU core, which can be done in "Task Manager", similar method to "Set Process Priority" - This command is only available on multi-CPU systems tho, so I can't describe exactly what/where since I only have a single CPU lol .

Try poking around with affinity settings and see if it makes any difference - hopefully it does.

But, as I say this was a while ago I saw this posted, and may have been fixed / may be totally unrelated to the current random CPU hogging.

Best of luck,

dave.
