Do you or anyone else know what the celeberties get in return for wearing the gear?

Their entry fee paid for I'd assume.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Also, I am still unclear as to why Jamie Gold ever promised half of his winnings in the first place. [/ QUOTE ] Despite his bluster, do you really think he imagined he would make the top 20? And some reports made it seem like Gold wanted Leyser to play instead, but Bodog said Gold had to play. So then it would have been half of what Leyser won. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I read this, but I don't understand why Gold would have promised his seat away in the first place to someone he hardly knew for services not worth close to 10K. It seems there is much more to the story than has been made public so far. [/ QUOTE ] Gold smooth-talked bodog into buying his $10k seat if he could get the celebrities there. Gold then realized he didn't have any celebrities to get and he asked Leyser to help him out. If Leyser hadn't helped him out there would have been no celebrities (hypothetically) and Gold wouldn't have even been in the WSOP in the first place. Getting 2 stupid celebrities shouldn't be worth $10k. But that's what bodog wanted Gold to do. And gold was too lame to be able to do this on his own (despite the big game I'm sure he talked of himself). Leyser totally saved him on this one. Although if I was bodog and I saw the celebrities they had gotten I would have said, "Sorry...we thought you meant REAL celebrities for a $10k seat. These guys are MAYBE worth a $1500 2nd-chance event seat for you. Good luck." [/ QUOTE ] Did you see the Wild Card Poker series that was on FSN? It wasn't chock full of A-listers. |

I thought in the entertainment industry any publicity is good publicity.

A deal is a deal. Its really simple.
I think that that the bottom line in this story is that Bodog got pwned bigtime.... Everytime JG talks, his marketability goes down. |

[ QUOTE ]
From the ealier CP article: Leyser claims the breach of their contract has caused and will continue to cause him irreparable harm. He’s also stated publicly, “if Gold obtains the total sum of the winnings, Leyser will suffer further irreparable harm.” Some poster claimed to know this guy and described him as a stand-up guy. Sounds like a guy after a quick buck (6 million in fact). Legality of any agreement aside, perhaps the two decided to split the winnings, say $20-40k if Gold actually made it into the money, if the dude helped Gold find celebrities to endorse Bodog. Nice little earner, no problems there. But Gold actually made it BIG. How on Earth does this justify a $6M payday? If this is how it went, it's pure greed and makes me feel pretty sick. [/ QUOTE ] Not to be a Gold hater BUT. From what i understand/have read Leyser either paid for Golds entry and/or helped get some b list celebrities to wear Bodog gear in return for HALF of any cash Gold won. Now maybe all the facts are not out there but from how i see it they both entered into an agreement and if either party didnt like it they should of hashed it out before the WSOP. Gold owes half of the money he won to Leyser and if Gold gives any less than that hes garbage. end of story. Again maybe all the facts are not out yet but if everything is close to accurate thats how i see it and i dont see how anyone can see it differently. wait and see how this goes down. |

They say the only thing worse than bad publicity is no publicity. But Gold, winning the ME, already had publicity. The subsequent bad publicity is precisely that: bad.

[ QUOTE ]
If Leyser has taped phone conversations that either Gold admits is his voice (or are proven to be Gold) and on these conversations Gold continues to assure Leyser not to worry, that he (Leyser) will get half of whatever Gold wins. Then IMHO Leyser is a stand up guy and Gold is a creep. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly. If those tapes exist, then Gold is going to lose this lawsuit and go down in history as the biggest scumbag to ever hold the title of World Champion. Notice that nowhere in Gold's press release does he deny the allegations in the complaint. That would have been very easy for him to do if the allegations weren't true. |

[/ QUOTE ] People are really quick to jump on Jamie Gold without any real understanding of the facts. I don't have any real understanding of them either, but what I have read gives me no indication that Gold is trying to breach a deal. My impression of this lawsuit is that Gold is not trying to deny Leyser his share, but is instead trying to structure the division in a way that will reduce their tax liability. If you read the entirety of the phone conversation, it sounds like Gold is responding to a really paranoid Leyser who has been harassing him about getting his share of the money for the past several days. The fact that Leyser filed this lawsuit before Gold even attempted to redeem his money from Harrah's also seems to indicate some paranoia. I'm obviously not privy to any private conversations the two have had, but my reading of the facts at this point make Gold out to be the more reasonable of the two. |
