looks like I need to go see Miami Vice [/ QUOTE ] No -- it's a piece of crap. See The Descent; that's the film this trailer precedes. |

Did anyone see the trailer for The Departed that was showing in theaters this weekend? It's Scorsese's remake of the Hong Kong action movie Infernal Affairs. Holy crap, it looks amazing. Amazing. Potentially Scorsese's best since Goodfellas if not better . Jack Nicholson looks to be having a hilariously good time playing a Scorsese gangster, and DiCaprio, Damon, and Mark Wahlberg appear to be no slouches either. I loved the plot in the HK version, but for once this looks like a case where the American remake is even better. I am stoked. [/ QUOTE ] Nah, this looks good, but I don't think the intensity of Liotta, De Niro and Pesci in Goodfellas will be matched in this or any other gangster film. |

I didnt get a stiffy from this trailer, but Ive never seen the original. Is there something wrong with me or is all this fanfare due to people loving the original?

[/ QUOTE ] No, because I liked but didn't love the original. For me, the fanfare is about Martin Scorsese doing a totally kick-ass action/gangster movie again with a brilliant cast that looks really well done. And it's a cool concept: undercover cop in the mob, undercover gangster in the police force. |

This comes out on Friday -- and the advance word is awesome. Esquire and The Onion have both called it one of the best films of the year, and many say it really IS Scorsese's best since Goodfellas.

Don't see The Descent. It came out here over a year ago. It sucks.

Why must he use Gimme Shelter again and again and again? Why?
It is a great song but still.... lol - you can alway count on the Village Voice film critic hating everything. |

Boxofficeguru predicts an opening of $27M for this -- which means word of mouth could turn it into Scorsese's highest grossing film (along with what is hopefully one of his best; I'm seeing it tonight of course).
