I bought a couple of a/x jeans on sale this winter and noticed immediatly that they were better quality than the american eagle jeans that I had owned previously. I don't understand how people can't feel the difference when they first put a decent pair of jeans on.

I don't need to justify to you or an internet forum spending any amount on something I like. We're actually trying to help by recommending something we have had a good experience with. If you are content with your Anchor Blues, then ignore the thread. I really don't see the reason to hate.

My budget for jeans is $30-40 a pair, and they always fit great and last long

I will never understand the premium denim fad. 5 years ago nobody gave a crap what kind of jeans you wore but now everybody with "taste" is sporting a rent check on thier lower body. Granted my $80 jeans are way more awesome than my $30 Old Navy ones and it's not even close, but breaking $200 is just not practical.
There is no way anyone can convince me that this looks good.

Sushi, those look stupid. Just because a company has one pair of jeans that don't look good doesn't really change any part of this conversation. I could find a suit that costs ~$1000 and looks retarded, that doesn't mean people shouldn't spend that much on a nice suit.
Also, 5 years ago people most definitely cared about what jeans they were wearing. I remember because I use to express my shock at people who would pay $200 for Diesel jeans. I think you're incorrect on that one, because I can remember ten years back in high school people worrying about what type of jeans they were wearing and how much they cost. I remember trying to convince my parents to buy me some Cross Colours because of the hip hop videos I watched. |

Shant, those jeans look silly yet there are currently many of people who will shell out hundreds of dollars for that specific pair. There are people who will buy a fake pair of those jeans so they can wear them at a party. NYC/Ebay is flooded with knockoffs and everytime Evisu has a sample sale there will be tons of people buying what are very ugly jeans for very high prices in what is not necessarily even thier size.
My point is that unlike tuxedos, the demand for expensive, "premium" jeans is created by a need to exude affluence, and not necessarily quality or style. A Brooks Brothers suit will always look great, and is likely a good investment. Many expensive jeans, particularly the ones meant to show off a specific brand, will look very silly a few years down the road. |

How incredible can something be if it escapes notice? It's not like jeans are multifaceted objects. You wear them on your legs. They either fit well or not, look good or not, etc.
And if it's a durability issue, what the [censored] are you doing to your pants? I've had $20-$50 pairs of jeans that last years of normal use. Given that $20 gets you jeans that last 2-3 years, $200 jeans would have to last a quarter of a goddamn century to be the better purchase ceteris paribus. I don't think that's really the issue, though. |
