Tipping a buck a pot is just a built in cost of the game in the exact same nature the rake is. The only reason they don't make it a fixed amount like the rake is to give the option to people who want to make larger than standard tips.
Don't be a douchebag. Good dealers are becoming harder and harder to come by, and if people stop tipping them they are going to have less and less motivation to do a quality job. -Yarney

Let me give you a story on why should you tip --
First of all, I tip because it's the right thing to do, I don't expect anything in return, but if this isn't enough ... Was playing the other night, and won a pot pre-flop (didn't tip because it was <10). The very next hand, I won a second pot pre-flop, so I flipped the dealer a chip and told him that I didn't get him last hand. Dealer smiled and said, 'yeah, the last one was small'. A minute or two later, the dealer told me about a poker rate that I was unaware of, and that would save me $40 on my bill, if I spoke to the desk before midnight. Long and the short of it -- if being a mensch isn't enough, do the right thing because maybe he dealer can help you

A couple of very good board people can really help keep the room running well and shorten the wait.
