1. how is poker real? down $800 to up $300 in the night- that's a lot of money both ways for a lot of people and I don't give a [censored].

2. how do people play so many hands? this nearly killed me

3. how can people not beat this game? tonight I made some horrible calls, got totally screwed on a couple 3-5 outers and was drinking. and still won $.

also orange, I wouldn't consider this a downswing but it was almost there. this doesn't happen too often. edited to make my point clearer- I can spend most of the evening having lost a week's worth of work (or more) for a lot of people and then finish up about a week's worth (or less) and not feel satisfied because it isn't anything unusual or special- rather it's the norm.

beng, incorrect :/
and 10 BIs is not a true downswing, its just an occurence.

yeah but i think trying to play LAG without knowing how is the biggest leak of like every reg except 4-5 at 200NL on stars. also when i said earlier stars 1/2 is soft my view may be skewed because i never played pre legislation.

don't raise limpers with hands that their limp range is beating ?

[censored] one more time

HOW CAN PEOPLE PLAY THIS GAME FOR REAL AMOUNTS OF MONEY (400+) AND NOT HAVE THEIR LIVES COMPLETELY RUINED BY IT? IF YOU CAN MAKE SO MUCH/LOSE SO MUCH PLAYING POKER AND NOT CARE HOW CAN YOU EVER REALLY GIVE A DAMN ABOUT A JOB, PAYING FOR A COKE AT DINNER, THE PRICE OF GAS GOING UP, ETC. IT'S LIKE THINGS THAT MATTER TO MOST PEOPLE DON'T MATTER ANYMORE.

because we have a bankroll and its not money we care about in the sense of using a coupon to save a dollar yet, its our gambling/profitting money we can risk and not care about if we make +EV risk.

I have no problem paying $1200 for an aeron chair or donking my stack in 400NL when the only possible hand I could have is a bluff, and I probably make more money doing nothing than any other degen at my school, but for some reason I still feel bad paying too much for a drink. Is this weird, or std for poker degens?

Ya, I guess I was frustrated since I tried to convey it in my post above too, and failed.

But even at nl200 money has lost a ton of value for me. Friends complain about not being able to go out, see a concert, buy this, etc. because they don't have the money and then I think about how I lost 2 weeks of their work money in 2 hours, or how I made a week of their salary in 30 minutes. So when I go to the baseball game and it's $10 to park I don't care and just want to pay and go inside and friends want to find cheaper parking- to them $10 is something, to me $10 is absolutely nothing.

And so someone who plays 1000nl, they might win or lose a month or 2 worth of work for some people in a night. Or maybe a car, or a month long vacation somewhere. That's incredible- how can you have a $40k/year job, wake up each morning and give a damn about what's going on when the night before you won or lost half that in a couple hours.

And in my graph post, had i stopped when iw as down $800 or so it would have been like 'meh' and for a lot of my friends they would have KILLED for that much money. And then when I won $300 I don't even care- it doesn't make me one bit happier or anything, because it's nothing unusual. yet for most people winning $300 would be cause for celebration, you know?

Ya, I totally do. The money flying around from this game makes my head spin (not just the money I'm making, but the money others are making, too).

My girlfriend for example- ohhh. I gave her $100 'just because' one night to have fun with her friends and that's a big [censored] deal for her, a lot of money. Yet I felt really, really cheap since if I was playing online I could lose 10x that much to some [censored] I don't even know and not really care. I think it just makes it hard to relate to a lot of other 20 somethings when we have retirement accounts and they have student loans.

I have lost basically all value of money.

I'm sort of a life nit anyway, so it's not like i'm blowing my life savings or whatever.

All the people (poor college kids) around me are basically busto. They cant afford to pay $5 for random food or stuff they want. I see that and I dont know whether i'm supposed to laugh or cry.
