My point was that despite winning 5 in a row they didn't make up any ground. Boston has won 8 of 9, so 5 in a row for NY isn't really that great in context. To answer your question, I think Steinbrenner and Cashman care about how far back the Yanks are.

Man, the Yankees were lucky to catch the A's and the Mariners. The Mariners seem to be waking up though, they destroyed Halama and Jeremi Gonzalez. Then again, they destroyed Pavano, too.

I can't over emphasize how bad the A's are, man. It's pathetic. No one on that team is hitting a damned thing.
