1. HOW HAVE I DONE THUS FAR? 2. WHO ARE SOME GREAT PLAYERS I SHOULD BE HOPING SLIDE TO ME FOR MY NEXT PICK? 3. WHAT SHOULD MY STRATEGY BE FOR THE REST OF THE DRAFT? PLEASE INCLUDE ANY ADVICE [/ QUOTE ] 1. you get an A for approach thus far, and you selected some good hitters who will play well in this league (though i take mauer over tejada every day of the week), but i'm not a big fan of the SP you took, such as verlander over schilling. 2. alex gordon is one sleeper with big BA/OBP potential. dave roberts should be a good value but may not fit into your already steals-heavy lineup, forcing a trade. helton is another guy who benefits from the setup. 3. assuming weekly transactions, keep the focus strictly on hitters and SP; you may even want to draft a RP-eligible guy like wainwright for your RP spot to rack up more innings. with daily, you can afford to take a few closers. keep the hitting focus on guys who are up in the batting order to provide H and OBP. |

this reyes debate reminds me of two people arguing how to play a hand when one of them doesn't realize it's hi-lo.
scoresheet considers a player's real-world value, not his fantasy value. reyes is absolutely not the most valuable SS in the majors. if you think he is, you either live on long island or play too much roto. |

[ QUOTE ] also you must consider that in a league with a lot of trading, teams will trend toward the mean in most categories as they search for balance in midseason. [/ QUOTE ] tx. does this mean that I should overpay for the top performers? ie pay more than you would expect (linearly) for 15 steals instead of 10? [/ QUOTE ] basically it means that in the situation i described, adding 11 steals will increase your projected fantasy points by 1 or 2, not 5. assuming a normal distribution of projections in a category, you should expect about 11.5 points when you're projected to tie for first in a category, and 4.5 when you're projected to tie for last, rather than 14.5 or 1.5. does that make sense? the elite performers are worth more than their linear value in total, but this does not apply to single categories, where an elite performance is actually worth less. to take an extreme example, if you drafted rickey henderson or vince coleman in their primes, you were unlikely to see the full benefit of 100+ steals since you would likely win the category in a landslide, and the steals you got from further players were wasted. [ QUOTE ] side question - I have guys with similar PECOTA projections, that play the same position, but have different salaries. We have a fairly restricted trading cap - our draft budget was $275, but our cap is now $285. yearly inflation for keeping a guy is $3. my long winded question is, if I Chad Tracy at $5, who projects better than Mark Teahan who costs $11, I should want to trade Teahan, correct? (I also have Troy Glaus and Frank Thomas, so 1 should be trade bait I think) [/ QUOTE ] basically, yes. if you can get a better return for teahen, you want to deal him. but if tracy is in higher demand, don't be afraid to trade him instead, assuming you get value out of it. |

(206) Johnny Estrada [/ QUOTE ] B+. i like that you acquired mostly guys who collect a good number of hits, including a few leadoff men, but you should go even farther out of your way in this setup where hits are basically 40% of the batting poitns. vlad, cabrera, and crawford are all preferable to a-rod here. holliday may be the steal of your draft. |

crockpot, hope you don't mind "rate my team" posts like this one. This for a 2+2 league that you surely know about: 14-team 5x5 roto, 8 keepers plus two homegrown talent exceptions blah blah blah. Just wondering what you think of my lineup (obviously tough to talk about its chances of winning w/o knowing the other participants' teams; I just like getting impressions from knowledgeable folks).
C - R. Hernandez 1B - Konerko 2B - Kinsler 3B - A. Rodriguez SS - Hall MI - Lugo CI - Rolen OF - Sheffield OF - Pierre OF - Hawpe OF - Willingham U - Rowand (for now, may switch out depending on how some of my other guys perform) Bench hitters: Kearns, Lofton, K. Matsui, Helms We start 5 SP and 5 RP (daily lineup changes), and our IP cap is 1750 (I think). SP: T. Hudson, Hensley, Bonser, C. James, Blanton, McCarthy, W. Williams, Washburn RP: Lidge, F. Cordero, Wickman, Otsuka, D. Reyes, Turnbow And, just for the heck of it, my ten-man minors team: Jeff Baker, I. Stewart (not to be confused with istewart!), Koshansky, Frandsen, Ryan Sweeney, Carlos Gomez, Balentien, Volstad, Sleeth, Merkin Valdez. -McGee |

[ QUOTE ] League: Standard 5x5 roto keeper league. 11 teams, $260 payroll. Proposed trade to me. I get: Chien-ming Wang SP NYY $10 He gets Jhonny Peralta SS CLE $10 Through same basic research, Wang seems to have more value for his contract, but that doesn't take into account that he'll be out for a month or more. The draft is next week and the only pitchers I'll have on the roster are Brandon McCarthy and Jeremy Sowers. If I trade Peralta, I'll have to pick up someone in the draft as well. [/ QUOTE ] honestly i wouldn't keep either for $10 (if it's mixed; AL only is another story), but if you put a gun to my head i take wang. [/ QUOTE ] It is AL only. I knew I forgot something in my league description. If it's close I'll probably just pass on the trade. |

when adding OPS to a league, is it safe to say that '5-tool' guys like a-rod, utley, soriano, etc become even more valuable? i.e. take them over a pure slugger if it's close since having pure speed guys in the lineup is more of a drain on OPS?
basically i am thinking my major adjustments when adding OPS and holds are -pure speed guys like figgins, roberts drop a lot -5-tool guys and 20/20 types go up -closers go down, setup guys go up but beware overpaying as holds will probably not be too tough to come by in the form of late bloomers, callups, etc due to the nature of the bullpen -am planning to emphasize offense early even more than usual -not counting IP means high K/9, low WHIP relievers go up even more, hence starting pitching also goes down somewhat -power and OPS at the offensively weak positions becomes more valuable for similar reasons that five-tool guys go up in value - so 2B like Kent and Ray Durham, among the highest projected OPS in the league, go up anything i'm missing? draft in 1.5 hours... thanks! |
