[ QUOTE ]
First, I'm assuming someone who doesn't want a criminal business. Second, I believe the reason players haven't been prosecuted yet is b/c of the unclear nature of the Wire Act. This would fix that, and I think it will be enforced if passed. [/ QUOTE ] Second is wrong. Wire Act always went after the taker of the bet, the bookie. |

But, the taker of the bet has been prosecuted (sports betting) under the Wire Act. There have been one or two cases talked about on here. Once the govt. sees that we can still get to play poker online, if you don't think they'll make examples of the big winners, you're kidding yourself. And the fact that it will be illegal will dissuade many, like me, from playing. And I'm sure many fish.

They have never gone after a pure poker site. And the wire act says only the taker of the bet, they can't use the wire act in its current form to go after the bettor. If they could, why haven't they gone after Betonsports' members? |

Wow, I'm saying that if the Wire Act is amended, they will have the right to go after the players, and they will (at least from biggest down).

Kyl said they aren't going to go after players. As was mentioned before, it's pretty much only Ebay that wants players prosecuted. |

[ QUOTE ] Why would Ebay want that? [/ QUOTE ] Paypal protection by hurting their online pay competitors that support gambling. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think this is true. It is more likely that Ebay realizes that people are spending a lot of petty cash on gambling. If there's no gambling, people would be more likely to spend idle, sitting around the house on the internet money on auctions. having your competitors' customers prosecuted would be an odd competitive strategy. |
