What is taking the commish so long?! It's almost 2o'clock back east. I want answers damn it.
I'm pretty sure they're going to get suspended, and in doing so, they'll look completely retarded. I like Stern as a commissioner a lot, but they keep messing up. Last year, there was the whole seeding problem which ended up with DAL v SA in the WC Semis. Then the whole PETA friendly ball crap. Now, in this year's playoff, they run into the same problem in the second round, where the two best teams left out west are facing each other. And now, an absurdly strict interpretation of the rules could very well lead to a less entertaining series, lowering the quality of the product. |

They won't look retarded. It's the rule. Tough [censored].
Do you guys how baseless everything the comissioner does would be if he DIDN'T suspend them? How can you justify ever suspending them in the regular season if you won't do it for the playoffs? |

Vyse,
Yeah, it'd look terrible. Chris Broussard (who I generally don't care for), has a decent Insider Blog post about the situation. The rule itself is the problem, and it's been a problem before. Dis alluded to it with the pic of Ewing. The Knicks got nailed with a bunch of suspensions in game 6 of the Eastern Semis, including Ewing, due to the leave the bench rule. The problem was, Ewing wasn't anywhere near the scrum. He was standing at half court assessing the situation. To me, that's harmless. The NBA records EVERYTHING, and they go through and review it ad nauseam anyway. So why not just review it on a case by case basis? Why not change the wording of the rule so that it's not so clear cut? It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I haven't heard anything about Baron Davis or JRich getting a game, and they both committed violent acts on the court. But those are reviewed on a case by case basis. Why not situations like last night? |

It is an incredbily dumb rule when you consider the fact that Amare may get suspended for walking onto the court while Baron Davis almost knocked Derick Fisher unconsious on purpose and he will get to play the next game. The only catch is the terminology. If there was no "fight" only a hard foul and the players reactions...then the Suns players are not barred from being on the court. |

You're now arguing the rule, and not what the rule dictates. Two different things. The rule is already here, so you have to follow through with it. Getting rid of the rule is something else entirely.

Who are the two most marketable teams? I didn't realize the Knicks and the Lakers were still in the playoffs. I guess the Bulls are still there though.

[/ QUOTE ] Agreed. Like I said, I think they're gone next game. All I said after that is they'll look retarded. It doesn't matter if it's because of the interpretation or the rule itself. No matter the reason, when actual violent acts during games result in nothing, but harmlessly sticking up for your teammate results in a suspension, people are going to look at that and think, "wtf?" PITTM, Considering that the last Pistons / Spurs Finals had one of the worst TV Ratings in recent history (I think only Spurs / Nets were worse), I doubt that's what they're going for. |
