so a couple years back, I remember reading that Adu may not end up playing for the US national team, instead playing for Ghana. is that still a possibility? or does the fifa u-20 cup seal his fate?

Adu played in a friendly match against Canada before the World Cup. I would call that a full international cap that locks him into the US squad. Apparently, he was trying to find some wiggle room that the match was an exhibition and wouldn't count as a cap that would lock him into the US squad for life. The US soccer website lists him as having 1 cap for the senior squad.
Personally, I think that he is much more likely to make the US squad than the Ghana squad in the near future. The Ghanian midfield is much better than what we have run out recently.

So if Adu is good enough to play for the national team, it would be mroe in his intrest to play for the nation that will consistently be in the world cup
