Baltimore was no match for Peyton Manning's intangibles.

Is any other unaffiliated fan (well, Lions fan, in my case) rooting for the Colts this year for the first time?
I was expecting to watch this game with no rooting interest and found myself pulling really hard for Indy. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I am very happy that the Colts won today. I'd much rather face them than the Ravens. [/ QUOTE ] I'd agree. The Chargers have the 2nd best offense in the league, and your 3-4 should be very effective against Manning (who really has not played that well). But, if the Colts defense keeps playing like this... WTF is up with them? [/ QUOTE ] The Colts had the #2 defense last year. This year they had a few key injuries during the season, but they are mostly healthy now. The Colts having a horrible defense is largely a myth that Manning-backers have come up with to defend him against the "choker" label. [/ QUOTE ] lololol what about the other, i dunno, five or six [censored] seasons? |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I cant remember seeing a game with so many bad breaks going against one team. The Ravens have had ZERO luck this game. It is unreal: 1) Dallas Clark COMPLETELY misses the ball and it hits his knee and bounces up 2) Multiple fumbles with every one going Indy's way 3) 2 sure picks that are just tipped by Lewis 4) Kick hits the crossbar and goes in 5) Indy is buried on their own goaline and the offical calls a terrible offsides penalty 6) Stupid official calls Baltimore player out on the interception when it is going to go back for big yards. Also, the official misses the spot buy about 10 yards Baltimore hasnt played well and neither has indy. But every single break has gone for Indy. [/ QUOTE ] I'm sorry Utah. How come you didn't include those two INTs by Steve McNair on the Colts side of the field in your list? [/ QUOTE ] I'm pretty sure he was making a list of "lucky" plays. The McNair INTs contained no luck- they were simply bad plays. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly my point Assani. I think those two INTs turned the game more than any "luck" play. [/ QUOTE ] I'll agree there. I'm not sure that necesarily refutes his point about there being a lot of luck in the game though. [/ QUOTE ] I agree that the Colts were the luckier team today, but I don't think that was the main reason they won. To refute those 6 points listed by Mr. Utah: 1) Dallas Clark misses the ball initially because the defense was excellent, however this was a tough catch, not a lucky catch. 2) I agree with you on this one 3) The two "picks" tipped by Lewis, the middle lineback on your defense? what do you want Lewis to do, not tip the ball? How is he supposed to know who is behind him? Let's say these passes weren't going to be picked, wouldn't we all be praising Lewis for awesome defensive instincts and not as luck plays? Also, if you want to call this and #1 luck plays, lets call Todd Heap's 1 handed tip-catch (which if it sailed over his head was an easy Indy pick) a lucky play as well. 4) How is this lucky exactly? If it hit the front of the goal post and went in, sure, that defies physics and is lucky . .this hit the back of the goal post and went in. 5) This penalty is debatable either way. Remember, we saw the replay in slow motion. I agree that it looked like a bad call though. If the Raven never jumped in the neutral zone, this play would've never happened though. 6) I agree that this was a bad call. |

The Colts had the #2 defense last year. This year they had a few key injuries during the season, but they are mostly healthy now. The Colts having a horrible defense is largely a myth that Manning-backers have come up with to defend him against the "choker" label. [/ QUOTE ] Gah, total B.S. First, I've explained to you previously why the Colts did not have the #2 defense last year. You seemed to agree with me, but here you quote the false stat again in order to bolster your position. Second, the Colts defense was indeed horrible this year -- I have no idea why they're playing so much better in the playoffs. Last year the Colts' defense was above average, the year before it was about average, and in the years prior to that it was just as awful as it has been this year. Whatever you think of Manning's performance in the postseason, he deserves a ton of credit for getting his team to the playoffs again and again despite little or no help from the defense. All that said, Manning sure did have a bad game today. Keep in mind, though, that it's not as bad as it seems at first because he was playing the best defense in football. |

Is any other unaffiliated fan (well, Lions fan, in my case) rooting for the Colts this year for the first time? [/ QUOTE ] I'm "unaffiliated" in the sense that I live in NFC South country and have no real connection to the Colts. However, I usually cheer for them (and have been doing so for a while) because I want Peyton to win a Super Bowl so mainstream media will acknowledge how awesome he is. |

[/ QUOTE ] and you're sure I won't find posts of you in the past talking about how bad their D is? [/ QUOTE ]maybe when talking trash before a game like this, but I can't recall any other times. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] You could put Urlacher or Marcus Stroud on the Colts D and improve them more than putting Manning on the Lions. The Raiders are a tough example because all they need is a QB and new coaching staff on offense [/ QUOTE ] This is just so awfully wrong, in fact the Colts D is a great example of why you are so wrong. They have Dwight [censored] Freeney and their D is still awful. [/ QUOTE ]We finally agree on something UCF! [/ QUOTE ] |

I think it was pretty obvious that I was agreeing with you regarding a quarterback like Manning helping a team more than an impact defensive player was. I wasn't commenting at all on the Colts D. The discussion we were in was clearly about just that and you were just giving one example when you brought up the Colts D. I wasn't at all talking about the Colts D. |
