Ate mine too, and ditto.
Saw The Chungking Express -- liked it. A sort of funny, unrealistic romance more about ideas of romance and how they make us feel than about the romance themselves. A very filmic idea of romance, but light and fun enough that that doesn't get annoying and unwatchable by males. Also saw V of Vendetta, which I liked more than many in OOT did when it came out. John Hurt had a smallish part as the head bad guy he grew up into after being tortured in the lead role in the great movie of 1984 he did with Richard Burton in the 80's. Not always believable by a long shot, but that it had any interest at all in how people make their own dystopic futures was refreshing in these creepy Patriot Act times. |

I also thought Last King of Scotland was not great.
I saw "Time Bandits" on Sunday. I love Terry Gilliam so even though I've heard some people dislike this movie, I knew I would love it. I did love it. The ending in that movie is one of the funniest endings I've seen. Something that surprised me was that discussing the movie later, all that people pointed out was how random and strange the movie was, but I didn't notice it at all. I guess I have seen so many strange movies, that my "strange-detector" is not working anymore. |

For some reason I thought it was a Guy Ritchie film but just googled it and found out that it is not. Huh.
I guess people compare it to Snatch? Also, I just read that some claim it is better than Guy Ritchie films. Don't suppose you'd like to comment on this would you? |

Layer Cake was directed by the producer of Lock Stock and Snatch IIRR. Layer Cake is pretty good.

I liked it a lot, but it seems to have picked up some odd hate here and there from a number of posters.

I finally saw the Maltese Falcon for the first time! (as part of the 'upgrade challenge').
Great movie, can see why it's a classic, but I found it a little overrated. Bogart was terrific though, and his Sam Spade is one of the coolest film characters ever. I did enjoy it a lot though, even though the plot was either so incomprehensible it was impossible to follow, or so trivial there really wasn't any plot...not sure which. I think this is probably the best Bogart performance I've seen, better even than Casablanca and The African Queen. |
