that quote had nothing to do with whether the forum should be spilt.

[ QUOTE ] It seems presumptious to me for people, who admittedly don't post much here, to demand how the forum should be run. [/ QUOTE ] there was a vote and most of us apparently think that the forum should be split. it isn't even very close. you guys are posting as if ZJ and Degen are the only ones that want the split [/ QUOTE ] Actually, if you are a lurker who has no involvement in the community that is this forum, how would you vote? Remember, lurkers are allowed to vote in polls. |

I'm amazed that we have ~550+ people interested in this forum and issue.

[ QUOTE ]
I could read the low limit one to learn how to play poker, and the high limit one to goof around [/ QUOTE ] FYP High limit players already know how to play poker or else they like donating. And since the population of high limit players is so small, there is very little to be gained from extensive strategy discussions with the people you are either playing against or who are taking money away from people you are trying to take money away from. It would perhaps be fun at first to have detailed strategy discussions about seventh level thinking, but it would dull your edge over time -- especially as the number of your opponents who are lurking and learning would exceed the number posting and teaching by a fair margin. |

[ QUOTE ] I just woke up (stupid alarm clock..), and in the first two pages there are only five OT/LC posts. One of them is about eastbay's HU lesson, and the other is about books that help with STTs. So there are really only three OT/LC posts in the first 40 posts. So maybe you high limit dudes should start posting finally instead of whining. [/ QUOTE ] while this is a valid point, go ahead and scroll through there again and tell me how many of those 40 would be of use to somebody trying to improve their game at the $109+ level not many [/ QUOTE ] If you guys don't want to post, no one can force you. But then you can't blame anyone but yourselves for not having posts that you find interesting to read. |

[/ QUOTE ] There seems some truth to that. I've noticed a very strong pattern in which once players move to the higher limits, the majority contribute little more than brag posts and socializing thereafter. I wouldn't be surprised if the high limits forum became for them what this one essentially is now -- a game of chicken for the higher stakes posters, each daring the other to reveal something about their gameplay and thinking while trying to keep what they know or think to themselves, and in the meantime mostly just socializing or occasionally bashing on the obvious. |

Agreed this is somewhat of a pattern. But curtains would be the very strong exception. As would some of the other posters like newt, tigerite, some others I can't think of.

Actually, if you are a lurker who has no involvement in the community that is this forum, how would you vote? Remember, lurkers are allowed to vote in polls. [/ QUOTE ] Okay, since I've wasted 30 minutes at work reading this thread (it is amusing), I'll bite. I started lurking this forum about a month ago as I've recently started playing SNGs as a variety to cash games. Both sides have good arguments for and against the split. However, there is one argument that makes more sense than all of the others in my opinion. Many of those wanting a split (not all) are essentially arguing "if you build it we will come". Others have pointed out, correctly, that if the high stakes posters demonstrated a need for a new forum, via their actual posts, it is much more likely to occur. There is no reason whatsoever the high stakes posters can't post hands and have meaningful discussions. Generally the on topic posts have the buy in amount in the title. Some discretion should be exercised by all as to whether to respond to a particular post. I can see that a $215 player wouldn't want/value posts from an $11 player. I would think an $11 player would understand this. However, in any community there must be some give and take by all, regardless of class, society, income, ability, etc. While a split would be nice to differentiate the levels of play and thinking (much like the various holdem forums), the high stakes players should first demonstrate that a split is really needed rather than desired. By the way, I did not vote and do not intend to. Also, you will not see me posting basic, mechanical, noobish responses in a high stakes SNG thread. |

Maybe this could be as simple as saying we reserve the [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] icon for high-stakes hand threads or otherwise high-stakes-ish strategy threads. That would be a lot easier on the eye to scan down through the list than reading the subject lines. You can click on a page with 100 threads and almost immediately see the 4 or 5 high-stakes threads you might be interested in.
Maybe we could even break down some of the other limits this way. Huh? Huh? I like this idea dammit. |
