Katy,
This may be the best batch you've posted because they all have some semblance of shape. However, I think you're going to get another chorus of guys who'll say that every one of those shirts would be significantly improved if they fit like, say, baby doll tees at the bottom rather than being loose and concealing. Really, that's how the last one appears to fit, so that'd make it easily the best of the bunch. |

Showing your tummy or showing your boobies isn't necessary or even ideal, by my lights. It's just that there's a lot more choice than maternity clothes versus thong. I don't think you have to bare any skin at all and think it's pretty inappropriate in most workplaces to do so, and overrated on the street, too. There's nothing wrong with flaunting it when the mood hits you in your private life, but I'm probably happier seeing that mood hit only occasionally. First of all, fewer women can do it successfully than think they can, and secondly, there's something to be said for a little modesty, and thirdly, it does tend to bring things down to whose is better and is sticking it out more, which is fine for the beach and nightclub but a little diminishing and atavistic the rest of the time. I don't think the body is something you need to hide, but putting it on parade every chance you get is a bit much. I'd like to think a woman is confident and together enough that she can pull off "attractive" without wearing a thong and grinding a stripper pole.
So, even if you have your conservative side too, it doesn't mean you think mousy colored maternity wear is a good look. |

Katy,
In your OP, you said: [ QUOTE ] What do you guys and girls think of this style top for women (not for teenagers)? Do we like? [/ QUOTE ] I think your "not for teenagers" anticipates the problem. When a young girl wears this style, it can say "baby doll," but when a woman wears it, it can say other things. One of the problems the guys have is that this is exactly the style some women will wear when they are trying to hide something, be it pregnancy or overindulgence. On the other hand, just because some women wear it for that reason doesn't mean that they all do. And while the fashion isn't explicitly revealing, the imagination will always trump the reality--so I say: if you like these tops, feel that you look good in them, and they make you feel good about the way you look, go ahead and wear them. They're a young look, but if you can get away with a young look, more power to you. jmo Mack |

I kind of like these shirts, I would wear this with faded jeans or even white jeans if I owned any, too cheesy? I like the color ![]() this one would look great I think Obviously I will need a great tan to pull any of these off. [/ QUOTE ] I like all of those, katie. I don't think you'll need a tan to pull them off well, but they do show a ton of skin. Don't wear them on days when the zit fairy comes to visit. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, but I still wouldn't advise you to rush out and buy these. If you've got a closet full of similar ones, it's time to branch out. Men of the Lounge, what do you say we go hunting for some potential outfits for Katy that are (a) modest, and (b) hot? |

I like them all too (3 posts up), but you'd need a pretty good body to pull off the last one. That Polka dot dress on a cute girl is heaven.

Haha! That picture of the lady with the fat rolls is just awful Where do you guys find these things? [ QUOTE ] Blarg's (and men's) point is that if a woman has a nice figure, like the young lady in the sage blouse above, her clothes should accentuate that figure by being snug around the waist. Her clothes should create an hourglass shape like her body (and I don't mean in a slutty way), not a rectangle or widening triangle like these blouses do. [/ QUOTE ] I sort of get what you guys are saying. I've thought about going through my closet and gathering up all my tops like this and tossing them! I have a sneaking suspicion that my guy would agree with you Loungers . I still like the look though. It's like Nh1Nut said, there's something midwestern and innocent about the look. Keep in mind that some of us girls are conservative. Actually, if you want to know the truth I really love the lavender top worn by Alessandra that I posted a little ways up but there's no way I'm wearing it to work or to my mom's house. I agree with Nh1Nut (how do you spell your name?!) that the other kind of tops (baby doll style as I call them) can be sweetly sexy provided the fabric is light enough to swing (or flare out if you twirl ). I will have to ponder this hourglass shape concept. The problem is, I'm sick of tight shirts. I keep telling my sister and boyfriend that I am sick of how all my tops have shrunk and are teeny tiny and tight. I'm fairly conservative. I think tiny tops that show your stomach and lots of cleavage are just stupid looking on someone like me . [/ QUOTE ] Like I said, they don't have to be tight or slutty! You're still not hearing what I'm saying. We just prefer them not to be shapeless like a potato sack or a muumuu. A sundress is a perfectly lovely choice, and it looks better if there's a slight cinch in the waist to accentuate the woman's figure. Note that I didn't say it had to have a plunging neckline, or a bare midriff, or be tight. BTW that last batch of tops you posted were all MUCH better! |

Ohhhhh, hockey huh? [/ QUOTE ] That's it. You're off the christmas card list. I don't think many people here understand how conservative a city Cincinnati is. I was shocked how women dressed when I moved to Vegas. |
