[ QUOTE ]
There is a great expression coined by the Canadian politician Gordon Campbell (loosely paraphrased):

If you are in a room full of people and say "the next person who walks in is the clumsiest person I've ever met" and the person stumbles and falls, people will say "what a clumsy bumblefck".

If you are in a room full of people and say "the next person who comes into this room is the most agile, graceful person I have ever met", and the person who walks in stumbles and falls, people will say "what a graceful recovery."

Just something to keep in mind when you go back and read old threads and come to your own conclusions after the fact.

stealth,

it's not your responsibility to notify me everytime you have a hunch something is wrong, but on the flipside if you didn't notify me it's kind of ridiculous to come in here and condescend to everyone that you knew all along and didn't mention it "because I have less than 300 posts" and it wouldn't have made a difference.

If 15 stealthmunks had pmed me you bet your ass it would have made a difference.

[/ QUOTE ]

Gild,

People saying they were suspicious of Vig probably were. At the same time their only responsibility was to not donate, if anyone had any evidence that he was a scammer of any sort you would've gotten a PM.

Vig snuck through and passed the BBV test. There wasn't a lot of sentiment that he might not be on the up and up and most of the evidence we now have came out after the donations were made.

Give Gild credit for saying "enough is enough" and not allowing him to continue posting, it looks like he had every intention of milking BBV for a lot more money.

We don't have to stop all charitable giving...but the next person who is truly in need is going to need to go through a lot more hoops in order to get help. If someone is in such dire straits that he/she has to go to "internet friends" for assistance then they should be willing to provide undeniable proof.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yea Grifter I agree completely with everything you just said.

I never said it was people's responsibility to pm me or anything. But don't come in with your chest puffed saying 'I told you so' when you didn't do anything. The funny thing is the people that did tell me so have not contributed to the thread yet or at least are not being asses about it. The people that didn't do anything are being the most vocal.

Obviously hindsight is 20/20, but I still think it is important to distinguish whether Vig is your everyday degenerate gambler or a StevedaPimp type. Re-reading the old threads can give insight into this, combined with new info.

You can stop defending yourself anytime Gild, I'd say 99% of the posters here don't think you did anything wrong and the other 1% aren't going to change their minds..

Ya I'm not trying to defend myself at this point, I'm just trying to speak on the situation and I happen to be directly involved, so it's hard not to come off that way.

I had a feeling this was a scam when he started posting in every big sweat thread in MTT. It was so obvious he was just looking for money.

[/ QUOTE ]

while that was obvious, most posters thought it was a desperate chance to help his wife with her horrible illness, so it was understandable from that context and not suspicious at all.

Gildwulf,

i think you are completely stepping up. I was impressed with the proof vig offered and donated a few bucks myself. The fact that he blew it gambling makes me sick but I do not regret giving money. He has to live with what he did with my money, I am cool with that and do not blame anyone for being scammed.

I can't speak for the rest of the Monday morning quarterbacks, but I smelled something from the beginning and didn't do anything about it. I felt I would be flamed like crazy if I said anything in the thread and assumed a PM would be ignored so I never sent one.

However, I don't think Gild anything wrong. I have no one to blame but myself because I didn't say anything until all this crap came to light. I'm not going to sit here and say "ZOMG, u morans should have known this was a scam!! I knew all along!! pfft, no I didn't say anything. I just thought everyone knew"

Next time I'll PM Gild and Adanthar.

GW for mod.

I'm not really laughing at the fact that people donated money. I'm sure anyone who donated did not break out the wallet big time and donate money that means a LOT to them. Its kind of like, "Each person gives a little, it will help a lot" mentality.

I just think its ridiculous at how SURPRISED people are. This is an INTERNET POKER FORUM. He's asking for ONLINE SITE TRANSFERS to help his GIRLFRIEND. I guess some people have faith in humanity as it was proven that his girlfriend had cancer. HOWEVER, I guarantee if each of the donators had sat in at a gambler's anonymous meeting, they would think differently. I'm not calling everyone in 2+2 a degen, its just the probability that someone is a degen increases greatly by the fact that they post on an internet poker forum, and exponentially that they post asking for monetary help on an internet poker forum.

And you people are all ridiculous saynig the people that thought it was a scam should have pmd gild! Say hypothetically, I do do that, and he (for whatever reason or not) agrees with me n stops the fund raising. It turns out to be legit, and Mrs. Vig dies. I would have to deal with that guilt. It is far much more easy to say nothing, mention it to a few of my friends, and then say "I told you so." when the drama comes out :P.
