Let me ask you this... what would Peyton have to do over the rest of his career to make you say he was better than Brady? What would it take?

[/ QUOTE ]

This is a tough question. Let me say that I think that our dispute here is not over how we rate Manning; I think our dispute is that I rate Brady higher than most of you all. I think we're all pretty much in somewhat agreement on Manning.

Its hard for me to answer because I view Brady so highly. It would be like if someone asked me "What does Kobe Bryant have to do to make you think that hes better than Jordan?" I mean sure Bryant could end up better with a great second half of his career, but its just hard to say that someone is outright better than Jordan.

Obviously winning another SB would go a long way. I'd also like to see what he does with below average surrounding talent. For example, my opinion of Montana went up a ton after I saw him in Kansas City.

Its hard to give an outright answer to that question really. Sorry.

[/ QUOTE ]

But your answer is very telling, in that you value Brady extremely highly, as if he is the Michael Jordan of football, and you wonder if there's anything Manning could do to overtake him in your mind.

I would think if Manning wins 2 more SBs and Brady zero, giving them each three, that any rational fan would rank Manning ahead of Brady. Doesn't sound like you would.

[/ QUOTE ]

If Manning won 2 more SBs and Brady never played in another theres a good chance that I'd put Manning over Brady, but obviously theres a few other factors.

To carry out the analogy, if Kobe Bryant wins 3 more titles I might say hes as good as MJ.

It's not golf or tennis. Saying one player is better than others because they have more "team" championships is stupid.

I don't know how Montana compares to Marino or Peyton or Brady, I haven't seen either of them play and don't have enough information to come to a reasonable conclusion. However I would assume like Brady, Montana is overrated because your team winning a championship =! you individually winning a championship.

For a third year QB coming off a torn ACL Palmer's year was incredible. He is entering his peak and getting physically better so except next year to be a big improvement, which is saying a lot for a pro bowl QB.

I wish someone created a "What-If Machine" so I could make tons of money betting against CDS.

LOL @ Duracell grouping Rivers, Hasselbeck, Pennington and Favre together.

Part of the main reason the Colts D was so good last year was they would get out to huge leads forcing teams to pass all game long. The pass rushers of the Colts would rush the QB all game long and the cover two defense is designed to stop the pass.

Brandon Stokley went from a 1000 yard receiver to a guy getting benched in favour of Aaron Morehead.

As James282 said Manning and Palmer and etc. make everyone else better as well, look at Joseph Addai and Edgerrin James, look at the Colts great pass protection which never gives up sacks, a lot of this is due to Peyton.

T.J Houshmanzadeh went from a guy getting no playing time to a very good 2nd reciever in 2004 do you think he suddenly improved or do you think Carson made him improve?

Assani,
Where would you rank Lonnie Smith all time among all baseball players?

Edit: Just realized Stokley got injured.

I guess I really didn't illustrate that too well. Do I think they are all equal? No, but I got too lazy to separate them out and rank them at that point. On the other hand, I think those four (and Bulger, who I forgot), are probably the next best quarterbacks after those I already ranked.

if skip bayless writes a column on espn.com about how brady is still far superior to manning, listing illogical, biased and factually faulty arguments, nobody would really care and just blow it off.

is it because this guy is an anonymous internet blowhard that gets people so worked up?

People would care if there was a public forum where Skip expressed his opinion and you could respond.

Here is a poll from a football message board: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum...222792&st=

I'm not sure if you are familiar with Footballguys, but they are widely regarded as the best source of fantasy football information on the web, and many even consider them the best source of football info period.

I visit two message boards: this one and footballguys. And I would easily say that the football knowledge there is equal to the poker knowledge here.

Anyway, at the time of me posting this here are the current voting results:

P. Manning vs. T. Brady
P. Manning [ 139 ] [48.77%]
T. Brady [ 146 ] [51.23%]

Total Votes: 285

Now if you disagree with me, thats fine. But can we please drop this absolutely ridiculous notion that I'm trolling or that I'm making "crazy statements" just for the sake of argument. Plenty of knowledgeable football people think that Brady is better than Manning.

Edited to add: Now I'm sure that you could go to another message board and find a similar poll that has Manning leading the voting. Please don't waste your time. I'm certainly not using this as an argument that Brady is better. I'm simply using it as an argument that its close and its completely ridiculous to suggest that I'm trolling to say that Brady is better.
