Like I wrote, it's a pipe dream. I'll be surprised if we get either. That would require Muckler to think like me. I don't think the Avs will re-sign Sakic and probably not Blake either. They need to get younger and cheaper.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe the Sens should try and keep Chara before Redden. They should also bring Brian Lee up next season.

I was unimpressed with both players games this series, especially as the series went on. Chara looked like a frsutrated tired player, especially in game 5 and Redden looked off as well. For two Norris trophy candidates they were unimpressive to say the least.

Playing 30+ minutes each game will wear a man out....

....especially when a big goof like Chara is chasing around the quicker, faster Sabres....any long series regardless of who we play favors the Sabres, speed, quickness and stamina.

Who is going to want Daniel Alfredsson? Who has the cap room for him, more importantly? Unless the Senators are trading him for relative peanuts, they're not going to find too much interest in a guy who can't seem to win when it counts.

Haha, you Sabres fans are paranoid - just to let you know, my team's won the Cup 3 times, so I can't be worse luck than any of you guys. I do think Buffalo will have trouble with the 'Canes but they will do a much better job of challenging Ward than the Devils did.

Let's see....100 point player at 4.5 mil....who would want such a guy....hmmmm....nope, you're right. No one will want him. Sorry about the sarcasm, but Columbus paid that much for Adam Freakin Foote. Pretty much any team that already has a proven leader on the team and wants to add a very good skilled player will want him. If you go down the list of teams and what they have committed in contracts for next year, most are in the 15 - 20 million.

I'm 99% sure Brian Lee is going back to North Dakota next year, and besides, he didn't look all that good at the World Juniors this year.

I'd absolutely love to keep Chara, but rumour is that the Rangers are set to pay him whatever he wants. Redden loves the team and the town and will probably play for less than market to stay.

I think it's pretty clear that Chara was not himself physically. 81 games out of 82, I want to rip Redden a new one for some horrible give away that leads to a great scoring chance.

The Islanders have shelled out on an overrated Senator before. Although this is unlikely now that Milbury is gone.

Everyone knows he isn't an 100 point player without Spezza and Heatley, so let's call him a 75 point player since that's what he's been most of his career.

Let's also remember that he's the captain of Ottawa and trading a captain is actually difficult because it raises a lot of questions.

I'm sure there are teams that want Alfredsson, but they're not going to give up much for him because they know that Ottawa is desperate to sell. Mostly teams that are out of the playoffs. And if the salary cap doesn't rise as expected, there will be much less of a market for him.

Amazing how Heatley gets a pass for his abysmal production vs. the Sabres.

I think the new rules had something to do with his improved point production as well. He played with Spezza and Heatley for less than half the year. Regardless, let's call him a point/game guy. Why would you expect that the salary cap is not going up? Every single thing I've read says it's going to at least $42 mil.

This is a classic "change of scenery" scenario. Were the Senators desperate to sell Hossa? Was Atlanta desperate to sell Heatley? Were the Nordiques desperate to sell Lindros? Were the Habs desperate to sell Patrick Roy? Were the Bruins desperate to sell Ray Bourque?

There's always a market for top level talent.

The answers are as follows: no, yes, yes, yes, and no. Atlanta and Heatley decided it would be best for both of them if he was traded. Eric Lindros was never going to play for the Nordiques but the Flyers and Rangers were both stupid enough to sell out their franchises to get him. Patrick Roy demanded to be dealt from Montreal and there's no way it can be argued that they got full value for him. Alfredsson is in the middle of a long-term deal and he's also getting older. Comitting that much cash and time to Daniel Alfredsson can't be too interesting to most clubs. I also hardly think Alfredsson is anywhere near Lindros, Roy, or Bourque, but that's another discussion.
