You guys that argue how good or bad a review is determines how much traffic/replies it gets are seriously deluded. There is no correlation at all.

[/ QUOTE ] Quality + film interest has a serious correlation to how many views / replies they get. There are quite a few reviews from you i haven't read because they are movies everyone and their brother has seen a dozen times and reviewing the film is just silly. Also i think how long it has been since the last film review sometimes matters as well. |

The review traffic has a lot more to do with who cares about the movie. Kingpin, however awesome, is a little old to really get people going.

astro, Mat:
The real solution to the concerns raised by the scared mods is not to separate the A&E forum from OOT. It's to get rid of the garbage from OOT. Moderate out the really juvenile crap from OOT and a lot of problems get solved. |

For anyone who has not bothered to read the entire thread, Mat has already expressed his preference that A&E posts still be allowed in OOT even with the startup of a new forum, so really what exactly is everyone's problem that they have to get all rude? Seems to me that with this approach nothing would really change. I believe his intent is a forum that would draw in people who do not normally participate in OOT, who are turned off by OOT and have never been a part of the community anyway. It's not intended to take away from OOT since A&E posts would still be welcome here. Or did I totally misunderstand?

[/ QUOTE ] that isn't possible. far too much of what people like is considered garbage. i'm not talking about trainwrecks and bathroom threads, i'm talking about ask mes, trip reports, bar stories, basically everything. "cleaning up" oot to the point where everyone would stop avoiding it would basically mean destroying it. everybody that avoids it has their own reason. maybe they hate nsfw content, maybe they like a&e, but maybe it's something completely different. the soup nature makes it very difficult for certain people to tolerate, but it's what we like about it. |

[/ QUOTE ] If they get such little traffic, why would it be a good business move to create a forum to promote them? Do they have some intrinsic value to twoplustwo, or is it more a value to the person who wrote them? Is the goal to increase readership of film reviews or increase total activity on the site? (incidentally, I think the creation of an A&E forum will have a long-term decrease to both.) I don't feel that twoplustwo owes its users a look at their long-term plans, but it really appears that there isn't a clear plan in place. From the wood-panelling "upgrade" fiasco to the endless splitting of forums there really doesn't appear to be a quality plan in place. |

I made a case early on in this thread that if you separate them out, A&E would become a significant forum because more people would be posting A&E stuff, becuase it wouldn't tend to get insta-flushed, and people currently turned off by OOT would like it.
Anyone want to argue those ones? |
