I think Maine has improved drastically in the last year and a half. I don't recall his changeup or slider being nearly as good as it is now. I think his current success is maintainable.

I don't know if his current success is maintainable but I think he should be a quality starter. He's got Santana Numbers right now.

1.35 ERA, .159 BAA, 1.05 WHIP, 4-0.

Well, yes...obviously he'll regress back some. I'm trying to say that I think he can be a long-term 15 win/3.50 ERA guy.

Now maybe Alou to the DL.

Hopefully we can just hold on until October 1!

I know he was supposed to get an MRI today on that shoulder, are the results out yet?

More Endy for a couple of weeks might not be a bad thing, although our bench would look terrible with Easley and Endy playing every day.

The biggest improvement I've seen with Maine this year is his changeup. It helping vs left handed batters but he is still falling behind lefties in the count. It's not like lefties killed him last year either though with a .231 avg and a .698 OPS but he walked them twice as much as he walked right handed batters(23-10).

This year Maine has kept lefties to a .133 avg but has walked them about 2.5x as much(13-4).

For Maine to keep under a 4 era he is going to have to stop walking lefties because he has gotten lucky this year. That and I hate how he throws high fastballs consistently. But, Ron Darling says that is his 'out' pitch.

David Newhan is getting excited though! And I'm guessing we might get a Milledge call up if Alou goes on the DL. Or he can't play left?

Milledge is on the DL. Someone told me they read somewhere that Carlos Gomez will get called up if Alou goes on the DL.

No, MRI results are not out yet, but a 40 year old going for an MRI usually doesn't turn out the best.

After Fenway last year, I'm not sure if Willie will ever slot Milledge in left again Actually, Milledge can't play anywhere right now because he too is injured. I heard Ben Johnson was hurt too.

Ricky Ledee anyone?

Or....Carlos Gomez?

Milledge is definitely on the DL. As is Ben Johnson. Gomez might get the call-up but don't be surprised to see Ricky Ledee (yes, THAT Ricky Ledee).

Ricky is DHing isn't he? He is batting .300+ last I saw as well. I guess he could be a pretty good pinch hitter until Alou gets healthy. That seems like the good pick to me now. Ledee and Julio Franco, the stories they must have...
