Stickying review threads is a good compromise, but wouldn't really work. The politics of who gets stickied (I'm guessing diebitter would want all of his movie reviews stickied?) as well as the subjectivity of it and the precedence-setting (why not sticky a really good thread on relationship advice, or one of Dom's NSFW stories, or something else that is a really good thread).

perhaps the exposure i desire could easily be found by posting my threads/content in a completely different pez-centric forum or website.

i think you're playing into their hands with comments like these.

2+2 would likely rather start their own pez forum than see you go to another site.

OK, I see what you mean now... Here's what you tell them.
These people who make the very serious and thoughtful posts about movies will continue to do so in OOT if you do not split the forums. However, as others have said: If you split the forums, OOT will still be full of traffic, while the A&E forum will start out OK, but slowly fade from use. The arty and thoughtful posts in OOT happen precisely BECAUSE they have to compete with poop/pee/shouldIhitit-threads (which should be an acroym or something--PPDTs?) not in spite of them. Pryor/et.all want to capture the attention of all of OOT, not just the film nerds who already have seen Breathless. Therefore the split will eventually decrease traffic.

Does no one think a great feature would be the ability to "ignore" threads with a simple click on the main OOT page? Is this not an option at all, form a software standpoint? As far as I can see, this would solve a lot of problems.

The only problem this solves is one that only people unable to avoid reading a thread they don't like face.

Almost all the threads that have been considered "undesirable" were able to be judged as such simply from the topic.

how about, if it's an 'a&e' topic, put 'A&E: " in the title, like we do with 'OT' in non-ot forums

then those that don't like OOT can just scan for A&E: or even do a title search for threads with 'A&E:' in the title...

Yes, but people are complaining that stuff gets moved off the first page too fast, then never gets responded to. If you can ignore stuff you're not interested in, then your front page will be filled with stuff you ARE interested in.

Edit: I agree with you, and it works for me. The people that can't judge by the title are the people who are driving this whole movement, it seems.

the best thing going for OOT is the sense of community

sure, u could have an 'other games' forum where people could post 'Anybody up for an OG risk game?'...but people can always go to online risk sites to play randoms there...it's the fact that u can play against 'the guy who started a trainwreck' or 'the guy who came up with a great prank' or whatever...and i can read any old dude's movie reviews, but i may prefer to read one from someone who i've enjoyed their other posts in OOT and i'd like to see that person's perspective on the movie instead of some random movie critic

i can also go to yahoo! answers or google answers to ask questions, but it's more fun and faster to ask here first...lots of random Subject Matter Experts and expert googlers here to help out

el oh el at this thread and the "a&e"ers. No one cares what you think about Raging Bull or The Godfather. Get over yourself.
