That's just not a fair argument.

I actually like most of the blouses you posted. I understand why women like them. (forgiving, comfortable, feminine)
I think they can be subtly sexy. Maybe it's a midwestern sensibility thing.

I think most of the time it comes down to movement. If the shirt is cut so that it acts like a tent, it doesn't work. If it has some movement and gives some idea of what it's covering, then it works.

I would never have thought to pair this tie with this shirt but it's on the BananaRepublic website. What do you guys think? I kind of like it.

Also, do you like this shirt? Would you wear it? I sort of like the style. You think it's too short?

Tie/shirt combo is putrid; shirts are okay.

I'm not sure I'd call it putrid, but there are definitely better ties to pair w/ that shirt and better shirts to pair w/ that tie. I heard from fluffpop that short sleeve button down shirts were a huge fashion faux pas nowadays. If it wasn't for her, I'd say those shirts are fine.

Short sleeve dress shirts are now and have always been a fashion faux pas... those are casual button down shirts and they're fine.

I don't care if all the kids are wearing fashions like that shirt/tie combo above... it's awful.

Short sleeve dress shirts were pretty common in the 50's and into the 60's. But that's when wearing a dress shirt or work shirt and tie was far less exceptional and not necessarily meant to be as dressy as it is today. You can see old stills, t.v. shows and movies and see pump jockeys at gas stations wearing ties, as well as engineers and such wearing short sleeves and ties. I don't think they were ever thought of as stylish, but I don't think there was any expectation that they were or had to be, either.

Good, they don't work well together. The other shirts are okay, I can't put my eye on what's missing, perhaps it's the details in the breatpocket but it's not great. The buttons are too large and noticeable a lighter shade would work

Ok I guess the overwhelming consensus is that the combination shirt and tie above is awful.

I agree with DrewDevil that the casual button down short sleeve shirt is fine. I'm just wondering if this particular style (above) is too short. The shorter they are the more feminine they look.

(btw, casual short sleeve button downs makes me think of George Clooney )
