One thing is apparent to me from reading this thread:

You are too good for work. Society needs to just throw money at you because you (apparently) are some kind of genius writer.

If you didn't catch it the first time, stop acting like Screech from Celebrity Fit Club. It's a big waste of everyone's time, most notably yours.

And lol @ whining about drama whores when you are coming onto an almost completely anonymous internet forum spilling your guts out for all to see. Your circular logic is dizzying.

How good are you at handling one of these?

Anacardo, have you found anything of value here? what have you learned?

[/ QUOTE ]

Nice question. Here's a sampler.

-I disagree the consensus opinion on a number of life-based controversies.

-The word 'genius' really bends people out of shape.

-My head's not right, but somebody out there named Burlap knows all about it.

-There's a lot of people who <3 drama and making things into more than they really are. There's also a lot of people who are basically sheep and love to suck your dick when you're up high and throw rocks at you when you're in a hole.

-I think I'd like to tutor, as that might be the only job I've ever seen or heard of that makes me think: I would hire me to do this, if I were them. Seems like a part-time deal; might have to get two gigs, or get one and casino whore or something in my spare time.

-I am right there in the target 'sucker' demographic for consumer debt: young, sheltered, clueless about money.

-I have a short temper and really resent slights.

-My basic circumstances / conundrum are very common problems.

Hopefully you have also learned the following obvious things...

1. Not having a backup plan/financing can mean starting from scratch which sucks. So make sure whatever plan you drum up includes a backup plan. For me this means a wad of cash in the bank, an education (I plan to take one course for the rest of my life, College or otherwise), and a network of people who can help me out when needed with cash/jobs/housing/etc.

2. Reduce expenses to an absolute minimum. They will come and take your car if you don't make the payment, however credit card companies wont do anything for years if ever.

3. Employment. You say you aren't up for some things, even before you try them. I hated sales, but I did it so I wasn't sitting at home wallowing in depression. Get out and do something, anything, action leads to results. Even if the action isn't quite on the track you were thinking.

4. Reality IS perception... and if you can't swallow that, then maybe your really smart, but really bad at comprehending what is real and where success/failure/happiness/etc comes from. Burlap is dead on.

Oh, right. This stuff.

1) Well, I definitely have a network, some of which was drafted from here at a moment's notice. Many of you are just awful [censored] who love nothing more than to kick a man when he's down; many of you, on the other hand, have been immensely helpful in matters both practical and theoretical, and I thank you for it. In the words of Cyrus (the usurper, not the famous one) - if I can only live long enough to repay everyone who's helped me, and spite everyone who's done me wrong, I'll be pleased. Or something like that.

2) I really think I can keep my car payment under control. If not I can always sell the [censored].

3) Fair enough, but I think that idea can be taken a bit far. Once again, I'm trying to emphasize what I'm good at and stay away from what I'm not, and I don't think that's too unreasonable. I might take, say, a fencing practice, and spend it deliberately working on everything I'm worst at for the challenge / learning experience, but fencing is something worth doing. This is gainful employment. As such, I'm just trying to maximize my utility.

4) Anybody positing the existence of God has to cling to the existence of objective reality, so I can't accept the notion that 'perception is reality and vice versa.' I believe very much in The Truth. However, I am prepared to accept the notion that, for all practical purposes, perception might as well be reality, and vice versa, since we have no way of dealing directly with reality, only with [censored] filtering mechanisms that sometimes go haywire for years on end. Intro to Philosophy, everybody.

I feel like this sentence explains a lot.

Of course you "think that idea" can be taken too far. But the fact is, you haven't "acted on that idea" to any degree, let alone too far. So how do you know anything about it, anyway?

Well, I haven't eaten a monkey-[censored] sandwich today. Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure that this is an experience I want to avoid. Imagination - a powerful, efficient, useful tool!

The next time you make another gimmick, will you please change the avatar slightly so poor Kyle doesn't get leveled all night? TY.

As long as this is still going:

Cardo, I worked for a local ATL driving school for 18 months or so when I was career changing into my current IT thing. I studied all morning, taught all afternoon and evening. I enjoyed the field better than the classroom teaching but classroom folks earn better due to no 'down' hours.

I had full use of the company car. It didn't have a douchey sign on top, just lettering on the side and back.

Set your own hours, ride all over town wherever you want to go*, USE SOMEBODY ELSE'S CAR FOR PERSONAL [censored].

You do have to be dependable, i.e. show the [censored] up where and when you say you will.

Brag: lots of 15 year old chicks as students.
Beat: lots of FOB Indians as students.
Variance: you don't get paid for down time between lessons.

*Me: anyplace in particular you want to go?
Student: Um, no...
Me: Cabbagetown it is.
