I also liked V for Vendetta.
Today I saw TMNT in the movie theater. The place was packed with kids, but for some reason none of them misbehaved. The movie was very fun, although I must admit I grew up loving the Ninja Turtles. As a kid, being inclined to solving problems, my favorite ninja turtle was Donatello. I have heard many people liking Leo because he is the leader and I've hear people liking Michaelangelo because of his comedy and fun. Yet, I haven't heard many people liking Raphael and he is the most interesting character. After the movie I felt like Raphael deserves more loving from the fans, without Raphael there's no ninja turtles. |

Took the kids to see "The Last Mimzy" today.
I felt it was a little too short, but both kids enjoyed it. I definately felt that some of the scenes would have been better if more time was spent focusing on them. One of the intgeresting aspects is the short story this is based on was written in 1943, and if the movie followed the original, it is certainly a story ahead of its time. I'm going to have to track down the short story and read it now. Also, the name for the short story came from line 3 of the poem Jabberwocky, in Lewis Caroll's Thru the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872. The movie ties into this as well. "Based on the acclaimed sci-fi short story by Lewis Padgett, 'The Last Mimzy' tells the story of two children who discover a mysterious box that contains some strange devices they think are toys. As the children play with these “toys,” they begin to display higher and higher intelligence levels. Their teacher tells their parents that they seem to have grown beyond genius. Their parents, too, realize something extraordinary is happening. Emma, the younger of the two, tells her confused mother that one of the toys, a beat-up stuffed toy rabbit, is named Mimzy and that “she teaches me things.” As Emma’s mom becomes increasingly concerned, a blackout shuts down the city and the government traces the source of the power surge to Emma’s family’s house. Things quickly spin wildly out of their control. The children are focused on these strange objects, Mimzy, and the important mission on which they seem to have been sent. When the little girl says that Mimzy contains a most serious message from the future, a scientific scan shows that Mimzy is part extremely high level electronic, and part organic! Everyone realizes that they are involved in something incredible…but exactly what? 'The Last Mimzy' features an ensemble cast that includes Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People, General’s Daughter), Joely Richardson (The Patriot, Nip/Tuck), Rainn Wilson (The Office), Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile), and newcomers Rhiannon Leigh Wryn and Chris O’Neil as the children, Emma and Noah. It is produced by Michael Phillips (The Sting, Close Encounters of the Third Kind) and directed by Bob Shaye (executive producer of, among other films, The Lord of the Rings trilogy). Shaye is also founder, Co-Chairman, and Co-CEO of New Line Cinema"

Interesting premise. Reminds me of an Outer Limits I saw.

natural city is supposed to be "a modern blade runner," but it's too messy. a great deal of story development got lost in editing or wasn't written in the first place. could've been great, but didn't quite make it. |

Interesting premise. Reminds me of an Outer Limits I saw. [/ QUOTE ] The little girl was awesome and the close encounters connection was played up at the very end. "The primary basis of the story is the fact that young children have the ability to adapt to different methods of thinking more than adult brains can." |

I've been meaning to see A Scanner Darkly, I haven't not liked too many Linklater films [/ QUOTE ] From the Linklater films I've seen A Scanner Darkly ranks the lowest and by far. I love Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. I thought Slacker and Waking Life were great, I enjoyed Dazed and Confused. I laughed a lot in School of Rock, but Scanner Darkly wasn't near those other films. I blame the fact that it wasn't his own story. Although there are some gems in it, like Downing's performance and the duo he has with Woody Harrelson. They made the movie worthwhile, but barely so. |
