[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] i give NE the edge next week because they have the better QB/coach, which seems to a big deal playoff time [/ QUOTE ] It is. Then again, I believe the Chargers are better at every other position on offense (and defense is about equal, the Chargers were banged up for some of the season). And their special teams are better this year too. Chargers are more talented, but I wouldn't put it past Belicheck to outfox Marty. [/ QUOTE ] The key will be Rivers. first playoff game...and its vs. BB. |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Definitely. Every position in the NFL requires a lot of work and football smarts, but QB just surpasses everything. [/ QUOTE ] Jack, what positions would you rank as the 5 toughest to play in the NFL? (Off and Def). How would you order them? EDIT: I mean 5 total between Of and Def. Meaning 3 offensive + 2 defensive, or whatever. I'm leaning towards QB, TE, HB, MLB, and DE? But I am not really sure, and don't know how to order them. Perhaps CB would take the place of DE. [/ QUOTE ]toughest mentally, physically, or just overall? |

However you want to answer, Assani.
I really have no idea. I've only really gotten into football within the last couple years and am still learning the game. Would like to hear what others think. |

Center is one of the most physically and mentally demanding positions on the field. They call the shots on the O-Line and mix it up with the strongest guys on the field.
QB has been covered. DT and RB have the shortest lifespans of any positions on the field. CB or MLB might be next. They're both physical and mental in very different ways. MLB is the "QB" of the defense, and is often running into the line of scrimmage to make tackles. Corners have likely the biggest responsibility of anyone once the play starts, and they need a lot of speed and endurance. There's not as much contact as in other positions, but the average DB is under 6 feet and they're often called upon to Jam and mix it up with much bigger receivers. That Needle has a similar list to mine is comforting - he'd have a better idea than I would. |

Hmm, I feel like DT is one of the few positions where guys are still productive at ~35: Sam Adams, Ted Washington, Warren Sapp, Rob Traylor...

McGahee,
The reason I feel that DT is one of the hardest positions on the field is because of what they have to do. Most DT's are called upon to cover 2 gaps while LB's, DE are only asked to cover 1 gap. DT's also have to rush the passer up the middle. Tight End is a good choice, but I am little old school with TE's and feel that they are tackle's with pass elgible numbers and should block first. Because I feel that way, TE's tend to have to run block against a pass rush DE or an OLB, a battle they should always win. I said FB's because they have some of the hardest assignments. In run blocks they sometimes have to get DE's, then they have to go to the finesse LB's. Then in the passing game they have to cover down and read blitzes, ect. Then they have to carry the ball. I guess some FB's can be interchangable with a few RB's but not many. |
