I think early (when the blinds were low and many bad players were left) it was a good strategy, but now it's just pissing away chips.
1. The blinds aren't nearly as low 2. The bubble part is over, nobody is scared of missing the money and thus can't be pushed around as easily when it was the bubble. 3. Most of the really horrible post flop players are already eliminated. The majority of the field remaining are at least decent to very good. D.N. is a great player, world class, and much better than myself (duh), but his preflop play seems every -EV alot of the time. The whole "I want alot of chips or I just want to go home" aspect may be playing a part of this too. |

I suspect that his post-flop ability and intimidation factor of playing like a maniac definitely makes his choice of styles +EV against a generally weak-passive field.
I very much doubt his run is ONLY just a situation of his getting lucky. IOW, if your average tourney-player tried to pull-off the same kind of strategy it is quite likely they wouldn't do so successfully. |

Cecilia Mortensen just doubled up... I didn't even know she was still in. She out-lasted Carlos.

It was a dark dinner break for Daniel Negreanu, as he lost all his colored chips, and only had black chips worth $100. Kid Poker was down to $29,000 but has since almost doubled up to $56,000. Now included in his stack are pink chips worth $500, and yellow chips worth $1,000. Negreanu's chip stack isn't the only thing increasing. When told that if he made a comeback it would be legendary, Negreanu said, "It's gonna happen."

[ QUOTE ]
Big Bluff With a board of K6543, there is $180,000 in the pot. Peter Placey moves all-in for $175,000, against Bradford Davenport ($228,000). Davenport goes into the tank, and calls the floor over to ask about exposing his cards. He is told he has two options, fold them face-up or flip them over and take a ten minute penalty. Davenport weighs his options and folds 55 face-up. Placey jumps up, throwing his cards face down on the table. He screams, "Yes! Show that hand!" His cards are flipped over to reveal KJ. Placey takes the pot down and is now at $355,000. Davenport is sitting with $228,000. [/ QUOTE ] Based on reports about the quality of the field, I really doubt the pusher thought he was bluffing. |

One hand after scolding the dealer for dealing him Big Slick, Daniel Negreanu ($40,000) is in a hand again. Kid Poker raises preflop from middle position and is called by the table's big stack from the button. The flop comes A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Both players check. Both players check the 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] on the turn. Negreanu bets $3,000 when the 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] hits on the river. His opponent immediately calls and Negreanu announces he has an Ace, and turns over A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. It's good as his opponent mucks. Negreanu who is still short stacked at $65,000 starts talking to the table how Rocky didn't think he could beat Apollo Creed in the first Rocky movie. Negreanu says Rocky told his wife Adrian, he just wanted to go the distance. Negreanu tells his table, "If I go the distance, I'm knocking out Apollo!" Just another 87 million chips to go Daniel.
