[ QUOTE ]
My tipping depends entirely on how I'm running, in life and in Vegas. As far as I'm concerned, everyone in the service industries is in the business of helping Los Feliz Slim make money, one way or another. If I'm running good, they share in the proceeds. If not, we ALL need to cut back and figure out ways to get me back on top. The way I see it, it's not a tip, it's profit sharing! [/ QUOTE ] Post of the year... wow... good stuff |

i am still shocked that the dealer for the farha/aba matchup in bobbys room and wrote about how they didnt tip her on her blog has a job. She should have been fired the next morning imo. [/ QUOTE ] If this were some normal occurrence or this dealer is always bitching about not getting tipped I might agree with you. But it's just rude to sit there and flip for $100k then stiff the dealer. They deserve to be called out on it if that's how it really happened. There seems to be a huge huge attitude gap here between the 2p2ers that empathize with service employees who expect tips as part of their income, and those who want to keep tipping some sort of hush hush under-the-table thing that we don't speak about in public. I'm guessing it breaks down something alontg the lines of people who once worked a tip job, and possibly people who don't tip all that well. For better or for worse, a lot of people have come to *expect* tips as part of their income. You can't put the genie back in the bottle and ask them not to get a little bothered when they get stiffed in an obvious tipping situation. |

I didn't read the whole thread, but recently coming back from vegas where I took a TON of cabrides, my question is do taxi drivers also get a % of the cabfare or do they just get minimum wage with tips being the only extra bonus?
I never had any problem with drivers complaining about my tip, but I tend to tip well ($10 on 6-7 fare). Which is a good thing, because people complaining/outright asking for a tip is a big pet peeve of mine. If someone does this, I just won't tip at all. |

As far as how much cabbies make, I'm not sure about Vegas, but cab drivers I've known said they paid an up front fee of about $35 and then they got 35% of the fare. So, a $20 fare nets them $7. You have to make the $35 back first and then the rest is yours. Plus they work 12 hour shifts. Vegas could be entirely different, but I'm guessing it's close. |
