Dom,

Who do you think teaches Navy SEALs their hand-to-hand fighting and killing techniques?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm going to take a wild guess and say other SEALS. If it's actually, Fodor, I apologize.

[/ QUOTE ]

I have never seen Fodor fight. The announcers said Fodor against Mike Tyson in Tyson's prime, Tyson would be lucky to last 90 seconds.

All Seals' battles are scripted by Hollywood. They never lose.

Boxing vs MMA perspecitve from a pro.

[ QUOTE ]
Story about a pro boxers UFC experience

Hey boxers, Marcus Davis has a message for you: “You can’t do it.”

You can’t jump into a mixed martial arts match against a fighter trained in disciplines such as wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and Muay Thai and expect to simply plant your feet, let your hands go and then go collect the winner’s portion of the purse.

Impossible.

“I will tell every boxer out there right now who thinks that because they watch a mixed martial arts fight and see the guys throwing punches and kicks and stuff, and say ‘if he tried to take me down, I’d catch him with a punch’ or ‘if he tried to kick me I’d step in and smash him with a punch,’ you’re wrong,” said Davis. “Because at some point, that fight will end up on the ground. You are gonna be kicked in the leg and taken to the ground and if you think that you’re gonna go in there, one-dimensional as a boxer and succeed in mixed martial arts, you’re gonna have a rude awakening. You’re gonna hit the ground and go into panic mode and the fight’s gonna be over. I don’t care who it is.”

And while the ‘can a boxer be successful in MMA’ question has been popping up more and more frequently as MMA battles the sweet science for viewers and mainstream media coverage, the bottom line is that Davis is more qualified than most when it comes to this topic. He isn’t a little kid shouting ‘my dad can beat up your dad’; he’s been on both sides of the equation as a pro boxer and an MMA pro.

I agree for the most part and think that especially applies to regular fighters and even to your typical pro. But with the very best in the world it doesn't necessarily have to work that way. If the best boxer in the world just happens to be a more gifted natural athlete (not unlikely), he might be able to avoid getting taken down and manage to KO the grappler before a takedown occurs.

Technique isn't everything; speed, reflexes and coordination really do count for a lot. If the speed/reflexes/coordination gap is great enough it can definitely overcome superior technique.

I have experience within the Special Operations side of the military to include relatively extensive interaction/training/operating with the NSW community. I feel very confident that the SEAL would not be the victor in this contest (assuming the outlined format). I also feel confident that the VAST majority if not all SEALs would agree with this statement.

If I can remember, next time I talk to one of my bros that's a NSWU/JSOC operator I'll bring this up. I actually expect them to laugh and say no F***n way are they favored here.

[/ QUOTE ]Thanks for your input.

More inside information like this is what's needed here. (But that's perhaps too much to ask on the internet, an ocean of lies.)

True, but for something as complex as this I believe the gap in technique is far more important than a gap in talent/athleticism. I'm pretty sure a good high school wrestler could take down the best athlete in the world, if the athlete had no training in such a contest.

OK, I'm obviously just too dense to understand the innuendo within this comment.

As for it being "inside information", one can actually find the general guidlines of training for any white-sof units on the web so I certainly have not said anything that would even remotely border on violating OPSEC or be FOUO.

However, if you are suggesting that I'm lying about either my affiliation or any other information/opinions I have given, then that's fair enough and I can understand why you may think that.

[/ QUOTE ]I'm saying it's unavoidable to have bragging, exaggeration, misrepresentation, plain lying, etc, on the internet. It this news to anyone? (So far, it seems we have avoided the worst in this thread, which would be to have UCF or SO pretenders acting up.)

I thank you for your input, and I invite more information from the inside, even if second-hand. But I also remind myself to fill up on salt.
