If you bet on Miami, you are being given 4.5 points. That means Miami can lose by 4 points, and you still win the hedge bet. If Miami loses by 5 points, then Pitt has covered the spread and you win the Mansion bet.

hmm i dont quite understand that... so when the bet is on +4.5 your betting on them winning the game after having 4.5 points added to their score? But when you bet on a team on -4.5 your betting on them winning by a margin of at least 5 points?

Correct. If you bet on someone at -4.5, and they win by 4, you lose. If you bet on someone at +4.5, and they lose by 4, you win. The points are handicapping the contest. Otherwise, noone would ever bet on the game between the worst and best time because everyone assumes the best team will win.

Depending on where you work, you might want to think twice about doing this on IE. Gambling is pretty close to porn as being a no-no.

No, you could only lose $500 if you had bet -5 for Pitt and +4.5 for Miami. Since you bet -4.5 and +4.5, you cant lose anything.
