After overwhelming the Hizballah stronghold of Bin Jubeil in southern Lebanon Tuesday July 25, Israeli armed ground forces and tanks are preparing to sweep forward to sanitize the town’s satellites.

Hizballah is reported by IDF sources to have lost 100-120 Hizballah fighters.

Israel’s immediate military mission now is to capture or subdue Bin Jubeil’s five satellite villages, where 300 Hizballah fighters are sheltering: Ain Ebel, Hannine, Deble, Yaroun and Rmaich, the latter two very close to the Lebanese-Israeli border.

Maj.-Gen. Amos Yadlin described the situation as “explosive” in a special intelligence briefing Tuesday, July 25, to the Knesset foreign affairs and security committee.

Some members sternly criticized the government for not calling up two reserve divisions and making preparations for war with Syria.

Club-wielding Palestinian police scuffled Tuesday with hundreds of Palestinians in an anti-US protest outside a government building where US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was about to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Chanting "Rice, out, out!" and carrying the flags of terror groups such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hizbullah, about 1,000 protesters clashed with police in front of Abbas' headquarters in the West Bank town of Ramallah.

For the first time since their offensive began July 12, the Israelis put a limit on how far their troops and tanks would advance in Lebanon. Israeli commander Col. Hemi Livni said Tuesday that Israeli ground troops aimed to destroy the Hezbollah infrastructure “within reach.”

“That means in southern Lebanon, not going beyond that,” Livni, who commands Israeli troops in the western sector of southern Lebanon, told Israel Army Radio.

These threads are funny. As someone who lived in Lebanon for 1/2 his life, and visited every summer since, I find it interesting - from an anthropological angle - how humans can construct wild views of the world when they have never even lived in those parts.

The assumptions made on this forum - about Lebanese civilians, Hizbollah, Syria, and so on - are so far off that I can't help but chuckle.
