On a sidenote, why wouldn't something like this be decided by popular vote? It's not like we're deciding whether to run another printing of TOP. This is a forum question that should be decided by a forum vote.

Because it's not about what the populous wants, it's about what the Power>(Mat+Commodus) thinks will generate the most site traffic.

I don't think it's that simple. People say one thing but do another, vocal minorities, blah blah blah.

A few things I see:

We're attempting to fix a problem that doesn't exist. This basically started because some of the mods found the current trends in OOT distasteful. To me the basic drive seemed to be "we like less posts/posters like Adam22 on our site.

This turned into an attempt to quarentine the NSFW/relationship/talk about myspace whores content in it's own forum. Once that didn't fly, the next step was "let's move the stuff we like about oot out of oot so that we can ignore the yucky parts of oot".

When OOT is at it's best, it is because you can come here and have intelligent discussion on any number of subjects. Dating/food/movies/music/how hot is this girl/ any random stuff. I don't even think it's the specific topics that are bad, it's simply that there's a very childish mindstate, best exemplified by Adam22, that a lot of people find REALLY distasteful.

If people don't like stuff like that, the best way is just to self policie. If somebody boasts about acitng like a [censored] in a thread, tell them they're acting like a [censored]. You can't really moderate culture and tone (something to some extend I learned the hard way in NVG and WPT).

In terms of why a split is bad, El D hit it right on the head. What makes OOT good is the mix, hurt that mix and you hurt oot.

Which Mod's are afraid of OOT? I'd like to hear what scares them...

Any possibility the A&E forum could be created on a trial basis? ...with the understanding A&E content could still be posted in OOT during this trial period?

I don't know. I don't really have strong feelings either way on this issue. I was just trying to find a compromise.

I see Mat already addressed this in this thread.

Never mind.
