Irish fans don't have much to cheer about lately, especially with the sub-anemic effort the team displayed against USC. But we finally did get some good news because 5 star uber reciever Michael Floyd from Minniapolis, St Paul committed to the Irish over the weekend. This brings brings an absolutely stacked class, currently ranked #1 in the nation, up to 20 recruits. I haven't given CW much credit for anything this season, but he certainly deserves kudos for holding together this amazing class despite the dismal season. Another WR and a couple more OLs and this could shape up to be the highest rated class in Irish history. As correctly mentioned in a previous post, Rivals.com doesn't name the National Champion, but recruiting this level of talent is an essential piece to a championship caliber program.

Now if they could just get a coach that could actually develop and coach the kids...

Bernie,

An absolutely legit question...one that Irish fans are currently wondering. We'll know a lot more about Weis's capabilities next year. With 3 full classes of his guys, he won't enjoy the same level patience with Irish fans as he has this season.

BTW, your boys are 2-5 right now...what's a) your opinion on TW, and b) is it any different from the prevailing mood of Husky fans?

2-5 with losses to Ohio State, @UCLA, USC, @ASU and Oregon. All of which they kept close until at least the 3rd quarter.

even the most extreme posidawgs have turned against ty at this point. is there any other explanation other than coaching on how a team can completely lose it in the second half of every single game? even the boise state game the huskies looked terrible in the second half.

It couldn't have anything to do with UW's FRESHMAN QB.

What is there to amend? At the time it seemed like a really good idea.

[/ QUOTE ]

It was a stupid idea. He hadn't been a coach long enough to prove he was worth a 10 year deal. He has zero accomplishments as a college coach. Must be a helluva salesman though.

Where are the posts by ND fans where they deny that ND is a really bad team? It's obvious everyone knows it, excuse ND fans for not carrying banners informing everyone on every negative aspect of their team. They know ND is not in the same league at USC or OSU right now, no one is claiming they are. There are some things for ND to be excited about in the future and that's about it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Pretty spot on.

They're too busy blaming Ty and not seeing that, so far, Weiss isn't the coach he was touted to be.

Two main problems with the Weis didn't understand the special needs of college kids:

1) Backdoor slam on the kids for the extent to which they are unprepared and slow to learn/adapt.

2) Backdoor implication that he could fare well with NFLers.

Why not the obvious answer:

Weis has a ton to learn about being a head coach and he is in the process of learning it.

So many Domers seem invested in Weis due to their own backing of the quick trigger on Ty and the absurd extension of Weis. Oh well, I guess "extension made sense at the time/results oriented to criticize it now" is actually progress of a sort.

There was no way of knowing that locking up a guy with one year of head coaching experience for ten years was an unprecedented and ridiculous gamble? Okay.

[/ QUOTE ]
10 years was too long IMO, but I am also not the AD of Notre Dame and I don't know much about contracts and how easy it would be to get rid of him. It was definatly a risk, but the guy seemed to be coaching up the team and getting everything headed in the right direction. He has a great NFL background and it seemed like it was a good idea.
Hopefully he can learn from the mistakes and fix the problems he made(not getting his talent ready) the program can move past this season.

If only Ty would have taken his predecessor's sub-500 squad and coached them up to 10-3 in his first year, then he could have been the beneficiary of this amazing Domer patience.

Another problem with ND might be that they keep landing these "Plan B" coaches. They wanted that GA Tech guy, but got Ty. They wanted Urban Meyer but got Weis. They shouldn't be giving 10 yr. extensions to Plan B coaches. I wonder how Urban would be doing right now if he had taken the ND job?

" I don't think it's irrational to assume that he is a good enough coach to do figure this out right this ship a little bit. "

Yeah, he did really do a solid job of building up that Stanford program, I guess he does have the track record to base some faith on.

Don't assume anything about the competency of ND's AD, he's terrible for far more reasons than a single contract extension.

It has been well-documented that Weis was not left with much front line talent in this year’s junior and senior classes. Of the 32 players originally signed in this group, only 24 remain. None of them are elite players, nor would any start on a top 15 team.

Can we expect a "Okay, Seriously, I Know We Said No Excuses, But C'mon, Ty's Guys Are Really Bad!" addendum to the 2nd edition of this modern classic in irony?
