Is there anyone following this game that knows how to play the game of chess (how the pieces move) but isn't a chess player? To be honest I think I'm the only one. Anyway, it takes me about 5 minutes to decipher the letters of each move and how it will play out on the board.

Oh well, it's fun to read the strategy and I have Curtains and the under to keep me more interested.

I just learned to read the notation and have almost no concept of tactics/strategy...so no, you're not the only one

bleh, tihs is supposed to be informative for those (including me) who aren't very good. if you don't like Bc5 at least explain why

[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not very good either but - it is great that Bc5 would control the long diagonal and hammer at the likely castled position. It is not so great that the piece would be hanging, and not really working with any of our other pieces. Hanging pieces create opportunity for combinative play from our opponents.

but, there are 2 immediate moves that defend that B if need be. dunno, it seems like the benefits outweigh the risk to me, but again, i'm not exactly a good player either

He responds Be3, what do you do? Move again? Trade? Both of those things are bad for black.

umm, b6

I think moving the dark-aquared bishop is our best move right now - this will allow us to castle (important in an open position like this). If we move to e7, it provides protection for the knight at f6, which not only prevents pinning the N against the Q (Bg5), but it also frees up the Q to help defend d5. If we move the B to c5, at some point he can play Be3 and attempt to exchange bishops. We can prevent this by then moving the pawn to d4. However, leaving the bishop hanging right now is not in our best interests. I say Be7.

All I'm saying is, that offers him a trade. We definitely do not want to trade this bishop. And that's all I got to say about that. [/Forrest]

As for the chess, I'm just waiting for someone to castle.

I haven't played in years and likely wasn't very good then, but he's developed his queen too early and we should try to make him pay. I think we should attack his queen with nb4.

8...Nb4
9. Qb3 Bf5
10. Nd4
Now Nc2+ drops a piece, so we have to do something to defend the bishop
10...Bg6
11. a6
Now we have to move the knight back

[/ QUOTE ]

try seeing what happens with 10...Qa5

[/ QUOTE ]
While the threat looks good, 11.Bd2 quickly causes a lot of problems

[/ QUOTE ]

actually we should just be able to counter with 11...Bxb1
12. Rxb1 Qxa2.
