And the morality of vegetarians presupposes a level of equivalence between humans and animals.

[/ QUOTE ]
The only place in this thread that I've seen anyone presuppose an equivalence between humans and animals is in the "food chain" argument that since animals eat the animals below in the chain, it must also be okay for humans to eat the animals below them.

Scrub - that was actaully my first thought, optimal diet for growing child. I'm assuming a strictly vegetarian diet can approach optimal levels, but I'm thinking it's much more difficult on the parents to achieve it.

My second thought was when, say, your son goes off to college, and tries bacon for the 1st time, there is a high % chance he will come back and murder you for depriving him of it for so many years.

I suck at the OOtroll guessing game. I'll do more research next time...

Anyway, back to the cat-fight...

stabn, I'm not going to tell you that no one "owns" a pancake. It's just not true. That rabbit clearly owns THAT pancake, you can see it in his eyes. But to say that ANY rabbit would "own" ANY pancake on it's head is not only inaccurate, but irresponsible.

Evan,

This made me lol enough that i wish i'd supported you on the pm thing.

But if you are a vegetarian for moral reasons, there has to be something about the animal that makes it deserve not to be killed... what is it? It has to be to avoid "cruelty," or "torture," or other human concepts.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you trying to say that its not morally wrong to treat animals cruely? To torture them?

[/ QUOTE ]

This is a good question.

In an absolute sense, I'm not sure about this. It certainly doesn't seem "right" to commit cruelty or torture on animals, but I don't believe that "morality" applies to non-humans.

However, relative to human morality, I look at it this way:

If hooking up a monkey's testicles to a car battery might help us discover a cure for cancer, I have two things to say:

Red is positive and black is negative.

stabn, that's cool, but no worries, it was my time. I've heard rumors that I haven't been spoken of as kindly as one might hope in the mod forum lately, I would ask that you do your best to never let the flame that was my fight against useless PMs extinguish.
