I don't know, in the few email clips you did post, his tone was very arrogant and cocky. No reason to talk like that to your player base. I do realize he figured your mom for a bot and probably felt it was OK to be a subtle jerk, but that still seems pretty immature. Especially because of how your mother handled herself in the emails.

Agree 100%. She is extraordinarily eloquent and eminently polite (as u can tell from her emails to me and them). Even when she challenges something, she does it in the most diplomatic way possible. She even went out of her way to say that it was his self-assured demeanor and unwillingness to even consider the possibility that he was wrong that really fueled her continued interest in this.

One of Lee's emails to my mother says that Jeff is one of their top security guys and that he trusts his judgement 6 ways to Sunday.

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't you find that a little worrying?

[/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely -- I don't think I can improve on the reasonining my mom gave in her previous email to me posted earlier in this thread:

"He (Lee) was impervious to the most blatant evidence that his security guy probably overstepped his enthusiasm on this one. Of course 5 cent players aren't important to the company, but what should have been important to Lee was building knowledge about the strengths and fallibilities of his security systems. The power he has left in Jeff's hands to be arbitrary and pig-headed should be frightening to anyone who thinks, "if I follow the rules, then I can always work things out." So even moreso should you be concerned about their ability to push a button and poof your funds are gone. This is not just PokerStars but any of the sites."

Still no HH files, huh? Interesting. I'm assuming that your mom doesn't save them on her computer as you'd undoutebly just ask for a .zip file of all of those from her.

I only asked about your brother because console security is paramount yet often overlooked. If you say he wouldn't screw over your mother like this then OK.

The fact that this has been passed up the chain of command and now one of Lee's bosses is going to call your mom says a lot about how 'stars views the zoo. This forum has power.

If your mom is looking for a fun way to fill the time that poker used to, civ 3 or 4 (depending on computer power) is a GREAT game. Crushing the persians is just as satisfying as winning $1 at the .02/.05 tables

Teddy, kudos to you and your mom on how you have handled yourself in this matter.

However, I do think it is a possbility that going public so quickly with this may have been in error in judgement on your part as it does appear that this is being reviewed at the highest levels at PokerStars. I believe if the evidence shows that Stars made an error in their "bot detection process", they will in fact own up to it and will apologize to your mother. If an error was made by PokerStars, I feel confident that they will take steps to assure that the same error will not happen in the future.

Unfortunately errors and mistakes happen all the time. It is the willingness and the ability to correct such errors or mistakes that is important. The only troubling aspect of this to me is the attitude Jeff displayed in his email. (Then again, I am not looking at the "evidence" he considered which may have contributed to his attitude.) I would hope to think if it does turn out an error was made on his part, he would personally apologize to your mother.

I for one, feel better knowing efforts are being made to detect bots by PokerStars even at the nano-limits.

And, finally to sum up, I think your mom is hot!!!!!!

The cynic in me says that they wouldn't have escalated this had he not gone public with it so quickly.

I would like to change my vote from "Mom installed a bot" to "Jeff is soon to be history."

This is really starting to look like a very good example of why, in most any business, an "indispensable" employee should be gotten rid of immediately.

Given Jeff's remark about how 'most of the bot handling methods are designed and understood only by him', i'll change my vote from trojan to Jeff's got a bug in his software. Or quite possibly Pokerstars has a bug in its reporting software, and given that Jeff clearly doesn't understand the principles of the underlying technology he's using (viz. his remark about sql), he's not going to be likely to figure out.

Statistically detecting bot play is certainly an interesting problem, but i'm not entirely sure that i'd rate looking for long continous periods of play as particularly sophisticated, or indeed difficult for others to understand. Although given some of the postings to this thread from the ignorati, that last might be an unwise assumption.

In the email we've seen Jeff comes across as someone who has a higher opinion of himself than is warranted. In my experience that's always bad news regardless of how good someone is. If someone is say a "8" on a scale of 0 to 10 and thinks they're a "9", they'll be more trouble than they are worth to keep and use. A "5" who thinks they're a "4" will be more productive. And BTW I'm guessing at this point that Jeff is a 7 who thinks he's a 9.5.

About publishing the email trail teddyFBI, I find it a bit funny that you are holding back. (Funny as in humorous at this point, not as in "odd".) You're comfortable publishing a big trail of what I'd consider private correspondence with your mother. Personally I'm not even interested in that stuff because it a) adds no substantive value and b) is unverifiable. But you're not comfortable publishing correspondence which I (if it were me) would assume could legitimately be made public since it is formal correspondence with a company. And that stuff is where the substance is, and it is verifiable since the company also has a copy. Still this is of course your call.

smoore, good suggestion about playing Civ! I'm a nobody on this board so far but you might know me from the Civ world, I'm "SirPleb" there. Been inactive for a while but my name is probably still known.
