"is there any other explanation other than coaching on how a team can completely lose it in the second half of every single game?"
There are maybe 20 teams in the country that aren't losing >5 games with UW's schedule thus far. I'm impressed with the ND fans ability to revisionize THEMSELVES. BigDaddy hasn't said anything good about Weis this year? ND fans were saying the the team wasn't that bad!! When you predict 7+ wins in a "down" year you are claiming that you're in the USC/UF/OSU tier of programs. |

[/ QUOTE ] I haven't really followed the whole thread, but this comment is sort of out there. You don't have to be an elite program to expect 7 wins in a down year. Tx A&M, Miami, Tennessee, heck even Iowa will all probably get to 7 wins this year. There is no reason for a program like ND to have a losing record more than once every ten years or so. It's not like 7 wins is an outrageous goal. |

FWIW, I found last season much more disappointing and frustrating on the whole than this season has been so far. Last year we had genuine expectations that we didn't get near fulfilling. This year was always going to be a disaster.
Looking back at some of the preseason talk and predictions is lol. And, while there is positive talk about this years recruiting class - next year will probably be terrible aswell. |

[/ QUOTE ] Do we want to amend the record on the Let's-Lock-Up-Weis-Until-2016 thing, too? And there's still that recurring thing about how Weis is somehow minimally responsible for being 1-7 and a home dog to Navy. |

At the time it seemed like a really good idea. Right now that contract seems like a less than stellar plan, but there is no way for anyone to have known this would happen. It sucks, but I still have faith that he can figure this out, I don't think it's irrational to assume that he is a good enough coach to do figure this out right this ship a little bit. |

There was no way of knowing that locking up a guy with one year of head coaching experience for ten years was an unprecedented and ridiculous gamble? Okay.

Interesting discussion of ND on sports radio this morning (sorry, local, I think). The talking head from ESPN was saying that the problem at ND is that Weis started coaching with a pro mind-set. This means he only played his top guys last year at the skill positions, while other big programs rotate in freshman/sophomores more to get them seasoned. Now the top guys have left, and Weis's young recruits are simply not ready. He also thought they lack any sort of young talent as well.
Nice ten year contract for a guy who's been spanked twice in bowl games. I guess beating Navy has it benefits! |

[/ QUOTE ] IIRC it wasn't even after a year, it was shortly after the greatest upset in the history of sports, when he led the Irish to a 31-34 win over the greatest team in the history of football, USC. At least, this is the impression I got from ESPN. |

BTW, your boys are 2-5 right now...what's a) your opinion on TW, and b) is it any different from the prevailing mood of Husky fans? I have some interesting stats on TW's career performance during the 2nd half...reinforces my belief that he doesn't adjust well and loses close games (like OSU, ASU, and UCLA this year). Will post it in the PAC 10 thread. [/ QUOTE ] 2-5 against the toughest schedule in the nation? I like it. They're at least competetive in games this season. UW is a much bigger rebuilding program than ND is. ND was at least left with 'some' players. UW was left with nothing and couldn't even get their own state's top recruits. So Ty has taken less talent and done more with it than Weiss who had more talent to start with. Many Husky fans seem to forget just how bad we were when Ty came in and just how low the program had sunk. Seattle pi article [ QUOTE ] reinforces my belief that he doesn't adjust well and loses close games (like OSU, ASU, and UCLA this year). [/ QUOTE ] You mean as opposed to just being blown out from the beginning like Weiss does? Btw...UCLA wasn't a close game until the 4th quarter. The Huskies sucked for the 1st 3 quarters. Niether was ASU. The 2nd 1/2, er 3rd quarter, losses were OSU, USC. Don't forget they sucked a bit in the 3rd against Boise St and still won. I think they've shown they can play with about anyone, they just tend to sabatoge themselves and find themselves on the losing side. Which is much more than I can say about the current state of ND. b |
