I doubt it was his first time putting a gun to someone's head threatening to end their life if he doesn't get something that he wants. And I doubt that would be his last time either if he hadn't died.

Yeah that didn't make much sense at all

Right. What we have in this case is a very effective method of "specific deterrence." He has committed his last crime.

Or even better if he would be brave enough to not have a gun and trust people not to be complete nutcases who murder people in cold blood. It might be a risk for him, but then he might not have to kill anybody. And he might also be a part of slowly making his country a little less crazy and fearful, and a little more trusting and human.

This worked really well for Europe just before the middle of the previous century, right?

Really you guys who say you'd just shoot someone dead are insane, do you really want to live your life knowing you killed someone, to me that's the most hideous thing you could do other than rape or child molestation. Killing another human would be an impossibility for me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Murdering another human being would be impossible. This isn't murder.

If it was the situation like in the OP, I would sleep like a baby that same night. The thug put himself in that position in the first place, then didn't play ball when given a final opportunity, so he paid the price. [censored] em.

It's his own fault he's dead and no one else's. I would have reacted 100% the same as the guy in the story and felt fine about it.

[/ QUOTE ]

To me it wouldn't be like oh man I committed murder today it would be like oh man I saved someone's life today

I did hear a rumor recently that a law was overturned in a particular state (possibly Florida) and now you can shoot an intruder fleeing your residence in the back. Can anyone confirm/deny?

[/ QUOTE ]
I think what you may be referring to is florida senate bill 436. Basically it changes a florida law that says the owner of the house is forced to flee during a homeinvasion before trying to stop the person. So if a man breaks into your house at night and you see him sneaking around, but he doesn't see you you would have had to leave the house and call the police. The new law says that if he is in your house and has a weapon you can shoot him without trying to flee the house first.

This thread is great in so many ways, but I have a feeling that many people are off in tons of ways.

To the anti-gun people: There is a TON of crazy [censored] that goes down around here, and while I wish it were not like this, there is no way that I would not keep a gun in my house for just-in-case instances. I have been robbed at gun point, threatened at gun point, and have been shot at twice. Detroit was not a nice place in the 90's, and is probably just as bad now. If I willingly put myself in those situations, I agree that it is not a smart move, but if someone else puts me in that situation in my own home, I feel that it would be foolish to leave myself unprotected.

To anyone who says they would get off shooting someone: I think that you are wildly mistaking how cool death is. Unless it is your profession to kill people (ie military), I find it very hard to belive that you would feel great about it, regardless of the circumstance that it happened under. When you see violent death like that right in front of you, it sure makes you realize how vulnerable you really are. Sure, I feel like I am indestructable, but when you see someone with a bunch of holes in them, you understand that it can happen to you just as quick.

And after all that garbage, I would have drilled that kid in his head too. Without a second thought.

I wouldn't feel great about it. But I definitely wish, I would use this rare chance to yell Boom, Headshot! I could blame it on shock later.
