Just to add to the above, I think the next year for Sevilla is absolutely huge.
They have the potential to become a big club for the next several years. By that I mean a team that is always mentioned as a top team domestically and with a reasonable shot to win the league late in the year and favorites to make the quarterfinal or so in the Champions League with an earlier exit being a disappointing campaign. Similarly with the domestic cup. On the business side, a seriously profitable team. In my opinion much of that hinges on this season. If Sevilla finish the year having busted out of the Copa del Rey early, not in a Champions League spot, and having busted out in the preliminary round or the group stage of the CL (and not making another UEFA Cup run) they could very easily slip back into being a mid-table fixture hoping to make the odd UEFA Cup or Copa del Rey run. They have a serious amount of young talent, talent which will not want to stay at the club for very long if they aren't winning title or at least getting close. If they have a bad season this year I could see a couple of the guys wanting to go and then a domino effect as the team gets worse and then more leave. It's obviously ok if you can keep up with scouting good young guys but we aren't going to run as well as we have the last 4 or 5 years. A couple of bad seasons could make things turn sour pretty quickly. A couple more good seasons and I think Sevilla will be a major club in Spain for a long time. |

All Arsenal need to do know is sell Gilberto and buy a world class defender

I definitely agree jared. Sevilla have all of the make ups right now to pull it off, but the key really is IMO that they turn into a buying club and not a selling club. This close season is probably their biggest in their history and will determine if they actually become another Barca and Madrid, or if they are more like Valenica and La Coruna where they are pretty big, but aren't big enough to consistently challenge for the top two spots. This is a very interesting close season for them

Merida should be playing in the Carling cup this year and he will hopefully force his way in to the first team

Even though he is "cool" on the move, I do hope Gudjohnsen goes to Newcastle. A very solid player who makes his team better. I was always very impressed with him at Chelsea. He seems just the type of player NUFC needs. Even if they don't get him, I must say this has been a very good offseason for the Magpies. Also, I really like the Da Silva signing for Arsenal. |
