What's there to answer? I don't know you personally but if you are the average American then you overestimate your abilities with a gun and all your macho posturing is just that. Simply put, I don't want idiots running around going vigilante because a bad guy + idiots running around chasing a bad guy with guns is more dangerous than one bad guy. Saying that increasing guns would prevent violence makes a lot of assumptions that there's no evidence for, a hell of a lot more assumptions than saying reducing guns would reduce violence.

[/ QUOTE ]

The news that it appears he purchased the weapons legally is going to be bad news for the pro-gun group, and I'm sure this gun debate will escalate to a nation wide discussion.

But I'm getting sick of people in this thread that keep referencing some kind of "Wild West machismo" or stating the pro-gun position as wanting to physically ARM the citizens. It's not about that. It's about me having the option to defend myself within all the perameters of the law.

[ QUOTE ]
That said, I am for gun control because firstly, as I said earlier, handguns are simply designed for the purpose of killing people, so I am opposed to letting people own them on principle.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think it would be great if we could just wipe the world clean of all guns. But we can't. It should be obvious that even when guns are banned, people who still want to kill people get their hands on them. Marijuana is banned, and wouldn't you know it, a lot of people still obtain it.

[ QUOTE ]
Secondly, while not reducing premeditated killings, gun control reduces "heat of the moment" killings. Just do a google search on "road rage shooting" and look at all the incidents. I'm sure they could have all been prevented if people weren't carrying guns in their cars.

[/ QUOTE ]

You can find just as many stats about guns that have saved lives in self-defense. There's not gonna be some master tote board about whether gun laws have saved more lives or cost more lives. It's about not restricting someone the personal freedom to defend themselves.

No offense, but who the hell are you to "let" me or anyone else do or own anything?

How is it that the same people who rant and rave against the Patriot Act and the Bush Administration destroying all our civil liberties can also rant about how we should round up and throw away everyone's guns?

The gun is the equalizer. It gives the weak a fighting chance against the strong.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep, it gives a Korean guy a fighting chance against 30+ people.

This guy had a receipt for a Glock 9mm purchase dated March. Honestly I don't think guns should be outlawed, but it shouldn't be so damn easy for any nutcase (including non-citizens) to stroll into a store and walk out with a handgun or two, like he was buying a tennis racket. But every time people try to make it more difficult for the wrong people to obtain guns (background checks, waiting periods, etc.) the NRA folks start yelling about "right to bear arms".

But people do love their guns, I guess.

There is a slight difference between personal freedom and the right to carry a lethal weapon.

[/ QUOTE ]

O RLY? What would that be?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you don't think it is obvious, I don't think I can ever convince you.

[/ QUOTE ]

Much easier than actually explaining yourself.

Or it gives any of those 30 people a fighting chance against a Korean guy.

Didn't Hitler round up guns before rounding up Jews?

Godwin's Law. Thread over.

Someone asserted something along the lines of genocide in Europe not being linked to a disarmed populace so I provided a counterexample.

Is that the answer though? Have all college students carry concealed handguns?

If I am understanding correctly, there should not be a government to control what people may do or own?
